Help with running The Underground 2's latest patch

Post » Sat Dec 10, 2011 10:52 am

Let me first say this: it *really* pisses me off when modder decide it's a good idea to use a completly different format than 7zip (and similar/compatable methods of file compression,) and *only* uploads the mod under that new compression type. Unless they absolutly say exactly what programs are needed and how to make it work, problems will occur.

Case in point; I'm trying to run The Underground 2's lastest version from the patch project. It uses something called xdelta. The game simply will not recognize the patch after I've run it through the application, and then proceeds to throw a fit when I re-name the file into one it recognizes (adding .esp or .esm to the end of the filename.) The readme included tells me how I can make it... but it won't tell me how I can *run* it- it seems to imply that an esp+xdelta file input creates a esp output, which I do not see happening.

The description of the patch (NOT the readme included) indicates it is a "binary diff" patch, not a ESP. There are no directions as to how to make the game recognize it as such, and it doesn't modify the source .esp/.esm in any way.

Anyone know what, if anything, I'm doing wrong? I'm downloading from the file listed as TU2fix7d.7z at http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=9053 so you guys can see what I'm working with.

i doubt if many people know enough about binary diff files to get that thing working , i tried and failed and subsequently deleted it, it wasn't part of the UG2 patch project as such , just something someone did independently which sadly for most people will be unusable. hopefully someone will translate those few additional fixes and put them into a regular esp/esm format but nobody has yet , to my knowledge.

Might explain why comments are disabled, then. And why he basically says "If you can't get this to work, then go screw yourself." But that's not part of the UG2 Patch Project? Seems odd it's under the same name, then. And I know v06 was loaded as regular ESP... which I had accidentally lost trying to get this version working, and can't seem to find on my computer.

Can you point me to the actual UG2 Patch Project, since this one is an offshoot by someone else? The link given to the current UG2 download boots people to the official forums homepage...

At any rate, only reason I asked is because when I cracked it open in the editor (the v6 part, that is) it looked like there was stuff left over from Qarl that s/he never implimented- journal entries, a few notes not in-game... that sort of stuff. Was thinking to see if I couldn't use that bugfix as a base to try and finish it off using the scant clues that were left in UG2. At the very least, I might be able to finish off the "main quest" from the Luminer temple, and add in a few more quests for the Luminer MG and FG.
