Steam ... "game is currently unavailable."

Post » Sat Dec 10, 2011 9:35 am

Since the friendly guys at stream cant exactly tell whats broken .. heres the Problem:

Got the game in the weekend sale and downloaded it, At first start it wanted to reinstall the usual stuff and without loading anything i got this wonderfull message... "game is currently unavailable."

So i tried to validate Game files, redownload (took me a day.) and contacted the support. Well, except telling me to update my drivers they couldnt exactly help.
heres what i did then:

Windows7:
-drivers: Video
directx
physx
visualc++
-steamapps: vcredist_x86.exe
DXSETUP.exe
-Adminmodus.
-Verifying game cache
-windows update
-disable antivir
-delete ClientRegistry.blob to force update
-delete everything to force update
-DEP exception for stream and fallout
-read only set and unset (took me an hour, wee.)
-start file directly

so far no luck, rebooted countless times during all those test and still nothing.
Sound driver is a windows plug n play since its a crappy onboard sound i dont even know what type.

*sighs and hopes for help*

Every other Stream game runs fine and even fallout3 (non-stream) is working.

*bows and waves*

After buying it just a few days ago during that sale I had exactly the same problem.
Then I switched the language to german, and presto, it works just fine.
Switched it back to english and it doesn't work anymore.
There is another thread somewhere around here where other people including me are already complaining about this,
but I'm too tired to go find it right now...
Anyway that might or might not be your problem.

The content server you're trying to get the english version from is likely overloaded. You're not the only clever fella who bought the game during a fantastic sale. Just wait a day or two and things should smooth out.

Unless you're in Germany, or somewhere else with laws that restrict violent content. Then it could be regional issues.

Oh, in your case, you're hosed. In Germany, you can only play the German version of New Vegas due to restrictions on violent games in Germany. Steam is simply enforcing the laws of the country. Sorry. =(

er, last time i checked New Vegas wasnt forbidden here, and since im far over 18 im allowed to play the game in any uncut version i want. So why does steam think they can block me then?

-_-

New Vegas isn't forbidden only because they made a special ''No Gore'' version for release in Germany.

Ask your politicians. Your age isn't the factor. Germany simply has laws against violence in games in general. Steam isn't being the bad guy here, they're simply obeying the law.

This isn't unprecedented. Tons of games get changes made to them so they can be sold in Germany. I'm pretty sure that even includes previous Fallout games (like Fallout 2 where they made the children NPCs invisible). Another high-profile game that comes to mind is Left 4 Dead 2 where to compensate for the reduction in gore, the German version got extra weapons available to use; lucky fellas.

there are no laws against it, they just usualy put such games on the index and forbid to sell it, since that didnt happen .. i am allowed to play it, im even allowed to play the uncensored european (uk..) version.

and since i prefer my games in english ..
i hate my country.

Technically it's the other way around. Steam isn't enforcing the law, it is actually breaking it.
Since the uncut version is available in the EU, it HAS to be available in all the EU.

Because it's an 18+ title in Germany it's illegal to advertise the uncut version, but once you own it it is your right to play it all you like, provided you're an advlt.
All Steam is doing here is avoiding getting in trouble so they just won't allow anything other than the cut version to be played.
And as I already said, that way they are actually breaking the law.

Davoren

Edit: A bit of extra info: A lot of games that are cut wouldn't actually NEED to be cut, but since the companies making the games are worried that their games are put on the index (aka can't be advertised or openly sold) they PREEMPTIVELY cut them to save them from having to pull them all from the market and cutting them later

The issue here is language. That language is German. This unfortunately has been an on going issue for more than a few people.
You arent alone Njasey. The advertisemant states low gore .... german language only. As ive posted in other threads, I believe the
only language you can play in is German (i think). Ive obtained a german IP and gone to check the ad myself. It is ambiguous.
They do show the game details as multi language. You should contact your steam and see if you can get a refund maybe or if you can in fact get the game in english.

it appears that in the english version at least the falloutNV.esm, the fallout_default.ini and the launcher are missing. Oh yay. Note to self: get the original game from england, costs more, but less [censored] by steam.

For New Vegas, that's not actually possible. All copies of New Vegas use Steam; the ones you buy in a store simply install Steam and a few large resource files, give you a Steam product key, and have you log in and finish the install via download.

Well, unless you play it on a console, but yuck, that's hardly an alternative.

You'll need the fallout - Voices1.bsa too. The intro video as well probably. Unless you have these already.

If you do then disregard this. Have fun. :foodndrink: :celebration:
