too many dragons

Post » Sat Dec 10, 2011 4:13 am

i don't know whether this topic belongs in the bugs forum or not. i'll let more experienced TES players be the judge.

the sheer number of dragon encounters is ruining this game for me. i haven't even made it very far in the main quest yet, and i've had 5 dragon encounters. i literally can't focus on anything else. this entire game has become "slay the dragon" and it is awful. am i the only one having this problem.

btw, this can't be a spoiler. everyone knew that dragons would be in the game. if this is spoiling something for you... i apologize. unbelievable, but i apologize.

some report too many, some report too few. that says they got it about right to me. with the caviat that anything becomes boring after too long, but that's not the game's fault.

To fight dragons you must do a certain main quest. You can always make a second character and ignore the main quest that way you can switch between characters as you like.

Edit:

It didn't become that it already was that.

Quite the opposite; I actually have not run into a single dragon yet (except the one seen in the opening sequence). I'm level 15 and over 30 hours into the game, however I side-stepped the main quest and have been doing other quests in Riften. Maybe that's the reason (?)

5 is not a lot actually, unless you mean in the span of a few minutes or something

I have not ran into an abundance of dragons or to few, I have only crossed about ten and that is fine with me. They appear when I least expect it and its not often, I like that.

I want all of your dragons!

I don't get near enough across the 3 characters that I play.

Need...more...Dragons!

If there is one thing the last game taught us was that dragons were always going to be the annoying 'Oblivion gates' of Skyrim.

Avoiding the MQ is the sure fire way to stop the game being mobbed by those dreaded nightmares in the sky.
Start a new character, embrace the TG and let the empire and stormcloaks fix their own problems. :celebration:

clearly i progressed too far in the MQ. entirely my bad. now i can't walk six feet without a dragon landing. has completely ruined the game. need to start a new character. i really wish i had known how game-breaking the MQ was from the start...

Strange, I loved the Oblivion gates... one of my favorite parts of the game. Then again, they were necessary for the way I played the game (using only major skills) in order to "enchant" items.

Dragon encounters have been "just right" for me so far. I only wish they were slightly more challenging (playing on Master).

I just killed a named dragon that I found resurrecting a new dragon- I hope this doesn't impact the amount of new dragons in my game (as in too few) now. :D

Dragon spawns are tied to fast traveling. Fast traveling more yield more dragons whereas simply walking/riding everywhere yields less dragons.

the game has literally ground to a halt for me. had to start a new character. i couldn't do anything without fighting a dragon.

simple go kill this thing quest... dragon shows up.

go to this place and kill something... dragon shows up.

enter a city... dragon shows up.

move in any direction... dragon shows up.

the game is ruined. i can't complete a single side quest because a dragon shows up everywhere i go. nice jon devs. you ruined the game just so you could include dragons for the faggy 1% that thought they would be cool.

Sounds right to me. I never fast travel and feel dragon encounters have been pretty well balanced so far.

I get a lot of dragons too, at first it was pretty epic to fight them. Then there were so many that they just became annoying and I just ignore them except they always follow me and never leave me alone. They seem to pop up once every 5 times I fast travel to a city, I have like 20 dragon souls and I'm level 32.

Yes, there are many especially when you head up on mountain-paths. I find the battles epic everytime personally, since I am a big Dragonlance fan. I don't think you need to do the main quest for them to appear (I have not done it at all) but think perhaps they are triggered once you speak to the earl and the rest happens (I was warned about spoilers once).

Edit: The Jarl rather...same thing?

It's the same for me. I rarely use fast travel, and usually either walk or take carriages, and I see maybe one dragon every five hours of playing.

Aw lucky, for me I have to find outdoor word walls to encounter most of my dragon fights, its rare for my warrior to have a run in with a dragon, I'd say i've killed 5 from outdoor shrines 1 random encounter and the 1 during the early stages or MQ.

I want more dragons!! I'm level 29 btw.

I'm about halfway through the MQ I figure, and I've only JUST started seeing dragons beyond the occasional dragon lair or the occasional one that swoops down. I think its awesome.

You must have had a bug or something casuing so many to spawn. Or you were in a spot in the MQ where tons and tons of dragons were set to spawn, but for some really weird reason you decided to stop doing the MQ at that point, so you keep fighting said dragons, instead of solving your own problem?

Or it was just a bug. I dunno! Or it could be the FT thing. I hardly ever FT, it would be odd if they tied dragon spawns to fast traveling. Though it kind of makes sense - they figure that because you are FTing everywhere you'd miss out on most of the gmaeplay and dragons that would spawn naturally via just exploring, so they just spawn a dragon on you?

I've got all my shouts fully unlocked and I have 38 dragon souls lying around doing nothing. So yeah. Too many dragons, it's gotten to the point where everytime I see one I just sit there and go "Oh piss off." Luckily I'm a destruction mage so I just hit Lightning Storm and laser it to death in a couple seconds, but yeah. I'd like it if they were a bit rarer.
