Get an xbox controller, play DiD only. (on master)

Post » Sat Dec 10, 2011 2:17 pm

These are just some tips I will elaborate...

I actually love the atmosphere of the game and I'm planning to avoid the negative, decadent complaining going around. (I wonder how many of those people have a job)...

I know this game is optimized for the xbox360 controller, so.... I got one!!! And it's awesome for laid back gaming...

I used to love my sidewinder 15 (or so) years ago, and I used to love the fact when I could play a game with the sidewinder...
I was overjoyed when the game actually thought of the sidewinder and had an easy control scheme especially for it...

So why should I be mad now that the gameplay is great for an xbox controller???

I just got one, and I have to say, it plays great...

Aiming is more difficult but that actually is great for archery... Feels like archery is a skill I REALLY need to develop now, with good control over the knob.

I also play on master and will never slide the difficulty down..
I also restarted the game like 3 times because I will only play DiD, (until I'm fed up with beginning from scratch)

Let me tell you...

This game seems to be made for "DiD" You can't believe how much more intense it all feels...
You really have to think about having enough food and potions on you...

Now that I'm doing the dragonclaw/dragonhood thingie quest for the third time I got a little further...
It was kind of dumb of me to awaken a restless draught, I ran out of the dungeon like a scared child because of "DiD"...
And it's kind of a puzzle now on how to go back and beat him...

I really feel DiD brings out the full glory of this game.
I can't think of playing without it anymore...
Even though I would really HATE to die, but I can't cheat on myself and continue with that char after I die.

I also don't understand why they didn't put an option in to disable the compass...
It's very easy to disable in the .ini file (not in the steam folder but in the "my games" folder)

Why would you ever want to play with the compass?

I would also suggest to not read the forums to much because all this negativity here will be a thought in the back of your head...
"ow maybe they are right about this or that"
"what did they say about this quest again?"
"ah, someone said you can abuse this quest"..

Play on DiD and you forget what they said here, you just don't want to die, and the atmosphere comes alive....

Just my view on it all, feel free to disagree, but I will enjoy this game being the console port that it is, with a great controller...

After this I will finish Gothic 1, 2 and risen, pure pc games with horrible controls for 2011, but real "advanced dnd atmosphere" rpg's...

While you're avoiding criticism posts, make sure to avoid delusional fan boy posts as well. Thats what I've been trying to do and its working out nice. While criticism can be annoying if not worded correctly fanboyism is FAR worse.

I also bought a 360 controller for this game and not only is sitting back more enjoyable but now the menus make sense! much better than the keyboard and mouse.

True, I hated the xbox all the way, xbox vs ps2...
And now xbox360 vs pc.

But I just turned those goggles off and I use the fact that it is optimized greatly for sitting on your bed, playing with a controller...

Back in the days I only dreamed of using my sidewinder...

After a quick try with the Kb/Mouse I realized the menus were going to drive me crazy. I got out the 360 controller its great. I could never get the knack of using a bow in the other games so I don't think I am missing anything. I wish I could sprint and jump at same time, my only criticism really.

Dead is Dead aka hardcoe. A death means abandoning that character.

All console controllers cause my hands to cramp in horrible pain after 10 minutes, so no that's not an option for me. I can use a keyboard and mouse all day just fine though.

That must really increase the atmosphere of the game. What is the average amount of times you would restart a game and would you change your character a lot each time? I think I might go broke replacing damaged equipment if I played that way.

I'm actually a bit curious about trying DiD, myself. After I play through the game once, of course.

One caveat, though: why disable the compass? Could you not just assume that Tamrielian civilization has invented the compass? It's a centuries-old technology in our own world, of course. Not pre-gunpowder, but still old.

Also agree about the negativity. I'm having to remind myself not to dismiss complaints out of hand because the people making reasonable complaints seem to be outnumbered by the people who are like HOLY [censored] THIS GAME IS BROKEN WTF BETHESDA WE DONE BEEN [censored] OUTTA SIXTY BUCKS.

EDIT: I'm also quite satisfied with the 360 controller. Definitely better and more comfortable than playing with the keyboard and mouse.

If I was going to play that way I would not even set foot outside of the towns untill I had lvl 100 smithing alchemy and enchanting with heavy armor and sword/shield trained as much as I could have managed to get it

Lol, well.

I didn't manage to go beyond level 4 yet...

I died again, it's really tiresome to play it from scratch again now.

But on the other hand, finally getting through that first dungeon must give me a good relieve at the end lol.
