My Paladin - You decide race

Post » Sat Dec 10, 2011 8:12 pm

I am starting a paladin type. One handed, block, heavy armor, smithing, and some resto and destruction mixed in.

At the moment I am going back and forth between Imperial and Breton.

Imperial due to the starting bonuses aligning heavily towards my build, and Breton because of the innate magic resistance.

I am open to other race suggestions as well if someone wants to make a case for it.

Orc. Good warrior stats. Orcs are big on honor and fighting. You don't follow malacath but one of the 8. Maybe Mara. A paladin who wants the world to be merciful and just.

I see Bretons and anyone from High Rock or Iliac Bay specifically quickly becoming more of a Knight than a Paladin. Imperials sound like a better candidate :D

I also highly suggest you go find Meridia, the Daedric Lord, and do her quest.... if you don't know about it - trust me.

did that quest on my nord who uses 2 handers the other day. Definitely a big reason i am starting this paladin earlier than i had originally planned haha.

Breton for resist magic add

Atronach sign
Atronach perk
Magic resistance perk x3
Agent of Mara
Speallbreaker.

Lots of undead seem to use magic on me, or they are sometimes with necromancers. Also this helps agaisnt dragonpriests and witches/conjourers. Always useful to shrug of most of the magic because of so many spellcasters.

Orc, hands down best racial for dealing with tough melee enemies. Spells won't be a problem if you enchant and use certain quest reward and/or stone buffs.

My "paladin" is an Imperial, specializing in 2-Handed, Heavy Armor, Smithing, Restoration and Alteration.

I play a character which is very similar to this build and I play as an Imperial. It is my main character, and I have had a blast with it. Although, I have yet to use their race power (voice of the emporer) once. But their other power is always finding more gold. That's always nice.

Orc. The skill bonuses line up nicely...but the kicker? The rage power. Don't think of it as berserker fury or some barbaric savage thing. Think of it as righteous fury, the holy wrath of an agent of the Divines, purging the land of the wicked, and striking down those who would prey upon the weak.

haha i think this thread has just made it harder for me to decide. Now I have the roleplaying potential of an orc paladin which is intriguing.

In historical literature, the paladins were a bit like the French equivalent of the Knights of the Round Table.

Furthermore: In their earliest appearances the paladins were not the companions of Charlemagne, but of his vassal Roland. This Roland is based on the historical figure Hruodland, who is mentioned by Charlemagne's biographer Einhard as a Lord of the Breton March who died in the Battle of Roncevaux Pass... Source: Wikipedia

So Breton if you want to roleplay a historical "good" knight. :)

With a Breton, the magic resistance would be kind of like the improved saving throws of a D&D style paladin. Granted, the Imperial has a better beginning setup as far as skills go, but that can be easily overcome.
