BAIN files listed as missing until I install, then they are

Post » Sat Dec 10, 2011 7:30 pm

So I thought I was finally getting the hang of BAIN installations, and then this happens. For some mods, I don't use specific folder labels, b/c all the files are detected automatically. The structure is simply the .esp, and then meshes/textures folders. Yet all such simple packages are listed as having everything missing. Until I install the package that is, then everything becomes matched and I get a green plus-sign next to the mod :brokencomputer: Even when I use a more standard structure like folder 00 SomeName, and then inside is the esp and meshes/textures folders, it will still register every item missing until I install it. Can anybody explain to me what I'm doing wrong?

Guess I'm just confused then. According to http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/?page=bain_installation, red check boxes means missing files.

That's completely normal behavior for BAIN. Anything you don't have installed will be listed as missing because the files are simply not present in your Data folder (in other words, missing :teehee: ). You only need to worry about a red box if it has a plus sign inside, as that denotes an installed package that is missing files.

Awesome-sauce. Thanks to a few pages on the original TES Positive, I even got a fully updated OOO as BAIN-ready. Now I just need to decide if figuring how to make BAIN out of uFCOM and MMM is worth the trouble.

I wasn't aware anything significant was missing from the new version of the site. Was http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/?page=guides_mod_installation&subpage=fcom_installation_guide&step=2&method=b what you were after, by any chance?

Installing anything with BAIN is always worth the trouble. Ever since I started, I almost never use OMODs anymore:

BAIN allows for easy organization and maintenance of install order, something OBMM sorely lacks.

As both are based on bsa's (UFCOM if using the test bsa), I don't think it's worth the trouble personally. A bsa and a couple of esm/esp's is basically easier to install/uninstall manually IMO - or it's faster anyway as you don't have to wait for BAIN or OBMM.

You raise a good point. And all of the mods I have which over-write FCOM changes are for OOO specifically (most notable are Cyrodiil NPC Remodeling Project and Mage Equipment). My concern with using OMODs for the MMM & FCOM components is keeping track of everything that over-writes the Unofficial Patches.

If you are going to go so far as to make BAIN packages out of things like the UOP and many other mods then it couldn't hurt in any way to BAIN FCOM.

Actually the advantage is that if you have FCOM installed then install later UFCOM then BAIN would manage overwrite of the various updated esp. But then again if you are repackaging it all yourself might as well do what I did which is to package FCOM including the UFCOM stuff to make it all one nice tidy and neat package.

The more you BAIN the more you have visible control over what is installed and BAIN will tell you if something goes missing or has been altered as well.

The great thing is you can always add it via OBMM now and later with time upgrade to BAIN. I've done it several ways and even my main install I slowly moved from clunky omods to BAIN over several weeks.
