If you find an abandoned location. The best test is to take a tin can or another junk item, place it in a containter. Come back 3 days-1 week (In Game) and if the can is there. It means the container is safe to store things in :)

Yes, as cells respawn every 3 days, if the can is there, it means that container is set to never respawn, meaning it's safe to store your gear in it.

I will add to this, find a container that does not indicate it is owned. In other words, it does not show Red when you look at it.

TBH I don't think any container you can put things into Respawns. The only issue is if Ownership gets transfered. There is only one specific place the game gives you to hang your hat. However there are several places the game makes availible to you to use as a house either through Quest or Purchase (well you technically rent it, but you keep it for the whole game). In addition, I have come across a few places where there is no ownership assigned and could be used as a base of operations.

There's a nice little Farmers house on the outskirts of Vegas that I've taken a liking to.

Of course the first time getting to to it you'll need to..well..um.. :flamethrower:

If this thread were in Cheats/Hints where it belongs, I could give you more explicit help.

There are several "safe houses" that you can earn from befriending the three major factions and several of the smaller ones during the game. There are several rooms that you can buy from Innkeepers. In total there are ten locations that you can buy or earn to set up housekeeping.

There is also a way to store and transport your inventory in and betseen several of the major locations around the map.

And as the Colonel told you, you may find other containers that do not reset (usually they are empty when you find them) but there is no guarantee. I have found that generally it is safe to put things anywhere outside of containers. Unless the cell changes due to a mod or major story development (I don't think there are any of those in FONV) everything will be right where you left them. Having said that, because of the game engine, things can slip through floors or the ground and it is better to put them on a table or bed.

There is another thing to be caution of. Some homes have enemy NPC spawns nearby or inside. NPCs will sometimes pick up loot. If you really want to safeguard your home, put some land mines on the outside and inside entrance, or by the container. Best to use the most powerful mines you can find.

I've never needed to though I've always used the precaution when using a new home. :)

Yeah, I've used the Lucky 38 as my home since I got there, but I'm thinking of finding a more laid back place to reside once I pick the game back up tonight/tomorrow.

This is pretty good to know. I'll definitely start using mines (which I've always just sold when I obtained any) when I find a new home out in the wastes.

Thanks for the precaution.

I always use the hotel room in Novac(I think its called Novac, its the one with the big dinosaur) and I am currently testing different houses in Nipton, I like this town as it has a workbench and stuff. I used to use the lucky 38 put its a pain to get to, they should of put a fast travel point right in front of it. You have to go through 5 or 6 loading screens to get in there, and then your companions nick your gear(at least I think they do anyway).

I heard that Harper's Shack is nice. If you don't mind the neighbors that is.

My safe house is the Doc's house that you start the game in. He's a good room-mate. We have a deal worked out, he doesn't touch my stuff & I don't crawl into bed with him at night.
