Been there, done that. I also accidentally steal books on occasion because they aren't marked as owned until you start reading them.

Kind of annoying in places like Dragonsreach where you can take anything except the books.

I learned about this problem in Morrowind. Since then, I never ever ever ever talk across a counter to an npc. I always walk around.

I honestly can't think of any times I've accidentally "stolen" anything. I have taken things I didn't want to take withn't repercussion before (you know, the whole entire "Oh, we're pals! Here! Have all my worldly possessions" thing.)

Now, with that said, Kodlak has caught me pilfering that ever-so important respawning Daedra Heart of his a few times. He's always so nonchalant about it...

I play on the PC and there are times when I go to talk to someone and it says Steal Tankard and I click too quickly even though my crosshair is clearly over the npc. It happens and it is lame
