Economy Manipulation

I've read that the economy in cities can be manipulated. How is this done, and what are the effects?

Where did you read this at? The only economy manipulation I can think of is the investment perks in the Speech tree. :o

I think people took influencing economy a bit more than what it is. I'm pretty sure it just means, if you sell someone a lot of something te value will go down. If there is less in stock, the value goes up.

It's a perk in pick pocketing I believe, you can alter it once you get a perk though.

Well, to be fair, Todd Howard did make some kind of claim that we could destroy an economy by sabotaging a lumber mill. I'm guessing they took that possibility out.

It was said in several interveiws, that you would be able to mildly impact the economy and I am pretty sure the only example they gave was sabotaging a lumber mill.

I guess the economy manipulation did not make it in the game, sadly.

I remember that Todd clearly said we could destroy or sabotage saw mills and affect the prices of arrows pre-release.

This.

Todd has a tendency to blow the capabilities of the game way out of proportion. You have to take everything he says with a bag of salt. The way he acted, it sounded like a very dynamic economy, with prices that fluctuate based on player actions, supply and demand between regions, and even base industry that could produce supply.

But of course, it's nothing like that.

Someone on the forum a few days ago I saw said that doing "jobs" in towns (cutting wood) changed merchants supplies/gold. Any truth to that?

i read that as well. i asked around a few different cities but i still havent encountered anyone that gives a quest to sabotage another mill. the only interactive thing ive seen on the mills is the switch to activate the nuclear powered saw.
