Re-spec Option?

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 12:12 am

I really wanted to see the results of the poll on a re-spec option. However, due to the interesting word choice by the author of the last poll the thread was locked by a moderator. So I have restructured the previous poll regarding the re-spec option out of my own curiosity. Hopefully the options I have given you can adequately describe your opinion on this matter. If they cannot please elaborate on how you feel the ideal situation regarding a re-spec option would be with a reply. If you bring a different option to the table I will make sure to add it to the poll!

i'm not exactly sure what the requirements should be, but here's my 2 cents:

i think we should be able to re-spec, but not a total re-spec

i think we should just be able to remove 1 perk at a time for some kind of requirement, which i guess would have to be gold.

maybe make it so it costs like 1000 gold to remove 1 perk (letting you take that perk and spend it elsewhere)

then the next time you want to do it have it cost like 1500 or 2000, and everytime you want to do this it increases

i don't necessarily think that gold would be the best requirement, but there should be some kind of requirement, maybe a rare gem or something

the only reason i think we should be able to re-spec in the first place is because i think by not allowing us to do so punishes people for experimenting and trying new things

I'd see a cost of 1000 per perk point invested already. A total of 80 000 septims for a level 81 character. Is it too much?

One perk can be removed per day. First perk removal costs 1000 drakes. Increases by 1000 every time. Cost drops by 100 drake per day of not doing this, eventually back to minimum of 1000 so player can remove perks at minimum cost every 10 days, or choose to pay a hell a lot more money if they want.

Skill progress might reset for the perk removed as a little more penalty, e.g. if player removes a perk from Enchanting, its "progress bar" will be cleared.

(As a lol: Cooldown is enforced after the drake cost goes "over 9000")

I've spent around 10 perk points in Alteration and Illusion which I did not need to.
But I still don't want a respec of any form.
Just wait for the DLC's to come, I'm sure they'll give us new perk points through quests or magic.

I'd be willing to do anything for some sort of re-spec. I want to make my first character more specialized. When I first started I just wanted to try a bit of everything.

In a mature game we should learn to live with our mistakes. It's also fun to see what you can make out of it.

1: Power level Alchemy, Enchanting and Smithing to 100 and fill perk trees.
2: Make your Uber gear and a huge stockpile of Uber potions
3: Re-spec perks and shift nearly all the perks spent in those three skills into pure combat skills
4: ???
5: Profit!!

See the problem here?

If you could only do it once I don't think it would be that big of a deal. Or if -as suggested above- you had to pay large sums of money to move the perks. That would also be nice.

The Professor of Alteration at the College of Winterhold should be able to reverse your knowledge on a single perk once per week, at a cost of ( * 200).

So 10,000 septims at level 50.

Good idea in reference to only being able to do it one perk at a time. Added it to the poll!

@Hoki (I was going to make a separate post but figured this would be more efficient) I like your idea of having a professor manipulate your perk in a way so it makes at least a little sense as to why you are able to do so. He could possibly say that he cannot give you more skill but can manipulate your previous skills into different ones at the cost of the old skill. As well as at a cost of his time  . Maybe he would only be able to give you a perk point for the tree your re-specc'd perk was in?

maybe make it so that you only can only remove a certain amount of perks from a tree.

like maybe 2 or something. so if you have 6 points in smithing you can only remove 2, so that way there would still be a 'penalty' for putting a lot of perk points in a tree (therefore making you suffer through it) but you can still get a few back to encourage trial and error and perk exploration
