Dragons burn down buildings?

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 12:36 am

I remember reading in an article somewhere that Dragons would be so dynamic that they would burn down buildings and then they would get repaired after a while. Was this ever true?
I've only seen dragons in towns twice. The first was Alduin of course and the second was in Windhelm. I know Alduin was scripted but the one at Windhelm I believe was random. But the second one didn't do any damage to buildings.

So has anyone had a dragon burn down a random building and then seen the building get rebuilt?

Actually, I never saw this in any statement that came via Beth. (May have been, but I missed them)

Did see it in a lot of articles that were using info that had already changed hands a few times, especially with articles that had been translated a couple of times.

The buildings do burn, but they don't burn down. They use Sload Soap on the wood and it is a natural fire retardant. So, after a while, the flames die out.

I had one set a roof on fire, but like anytime a fire spell sets something on fire the fire eventually went out... besides I didnt keep him in the town, I led him away, I hate when villagers get in the way and I end up hitting them while trying to kill the enemy and now all of a sudden I have a bounty on me.

I wonder...

I did once meet a couple on the road to Whiterun coming from the east, when I spoke to them they said they were farmers and a dragon had wasted their place.

I threw them some coin and backtracked in the direction they were coming from, never found anything but tbh I did get typically sidetracked not long after.

It might be a case of some buildings can and some can't (like NPCs, essential and non essential?).

Next time a dragon hits near some farmsteads I'm going to hide and watch for a while.

Edit: oh, multi-ninja'd. >.<

Ah well nvm... I still think essential and non essential buildings would be cool... future mod maybe.

I had one yesterday jumping from roof to roof, but he didn't set anything on fire. Was a fun battle though.

I've had one set a thatched roof on fire, but the flames eventually die out and all is normal again.

That explains it. Thanks! Would be cool if buildings could get destroyed and rebuilt though :(

I had that experience too when I called a dragon to fight the guards for me in winterhold.

Yup

You guys just love getting in circles to pound your chests. Lies? What are you, a child? When mommy tries to do something but circumstances change you throw a fit and accuse her of lying to you? Or are you just keen on those evil corporations willing to say anything to take our money, poor innocent consumers. Gods forbid a developer talks about their ideas they'd like to have in the game without being accused of blatantly lying.

Sounds like typical misunderstandings on the receiving end of the news, not from bethesda. They clearly said they have no destructible environment what-so-ever, many times.

I just realized though that this theory can't be true or otherwise Helgen couldn't have been burned.

I recently ran into the Homeless farmer couple on the roads talking about their house burning down and barely 2 minutes later I found a burnt-out house still smoldering, I looted their chest, It was probably a fluke as I've ran into them a few times before and never found such a house, but it was a remarkable coincidence.
