Idea to increase immersion and decrease annoyance

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 5:26 am

Some epic pre-battle cinematic moments were ruined because of it.

Spoiler
The speech before the battle of Windhelm was completely drowned out by chatty Imperial soldiers.
General Tullius: We are the bravest soldiers in all of Tamriel! We have prepared for this bat-
Imperial Soldier: Damn Storm Cloak rebels...

Where in Canada? No one in Montreal does that. Hell, I'd find it wierd if some random person said hi to me on the street.

I'm from the East Coast. The large city centers tend to be full of people who aren't 'real' Canadians. They tend to be impolite, and think their cities actually matter to the rest of the country.

The rest of Canada apologizes about that.

But either way, NPCs need to act more like real people. Either be polite and friendly, offering a simple greeting in passing, rude and unfriendly, offering some insult in passing, or just keep their bloody mouths shut and go on about their day.

So hearing about Mudcraps all day long was much better?

I kind of think it was. The dialogue in Skyrim just further reinforces the notion that your character is for some reason the only person that matters in the whole game world. The moment you walk into a guild, you are the one and only savior of said guild. Likewise, the moment you walk into town, you are the only person anyone talks to, and they will tell you their life story at a moments glance.

In Oblivion you could walk through town blending in, people talked to each other, and would occasionally greet you if you walked real close to them. In this game you feel like a celebrity who can't walk down the street normally anymore because of how famous you are, regardless of whether your character is truly famous or a nobody.

The worst is when you are trying to talk to or listen to an NPC and another one keeps interrupting so you can understand wtf they are saying.

For example in Windhelm I was trying to ask the woman about her daughter and the whole time her husband kept saying "you need to leave" (every 2 seconds) while I was talking to her.

Delphine also constantly interrupted a conversation I was having with Esbern, I wanted to smack her to Sovngarde.
