What to wear as mage?

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 10:26 am

What would be the best clothing/armor (call it whatever) for me to wear as a mage? I would like to wear what would enhance my attack/defense (don't care about looks..it's a game).

Should I wear the robes the game generates and vendors sell or I find?

OR

Should I create light/heavy armor OR find light/heavy armor and then enchant it? But this method sounds like too much work. I'm not really into crafting. It's NO fun at all.

I want to concentrate more on playing rather then working (crafting). But! I do want to get the most out of my character and gameplay.

If you don't like the crafting, just stick with the normal mage outfit and get the alteration perk "mage armor" as soon as possible. It allows you to get a good armor rating as a mage without spending perks in crafting and armour skills.

all robes give magika regen iirc, but that isnt worth it when light and heavy armor absorb so much more damage, i go light armor, but heavy armor would work as well. just enchant it for things that work best for you, such as destruc tion spells cost less and such

How about using a conjured meatshield? That way they keep the enemies off of me. And thus I can attack from a far.

I usually wear The Nahkriin mask with my own enchanted robes. And I use heavy gloves and boots (Ebony). Imo it looks pretty awesome and thanks to the Heavy armored gloves and boots. Your defense isn't too poor.

You could go Heavy since there is no penalty except for more weight. But RP wise, I am going for light with a robe as my main piece. Besides, many awesome armours and masks are classified as Light and the Light Armour tree has useful perks unlike the left branch or even right branch of the Heavy Armour.

Heavy armor reduces Magicka regeneration.

This game has no penalties on Heavy vs Clothing on mages. The other night I actually found a +50pct magicka regeneration stat on a Heavy armor piece in a chest.

Yes in Oblivion you might have less effective cast spells or gimped regeneration but not here.

Since combat-mode already cuts your Magicka regeneration by 2/3 anyways, it doesn't hamper you at all except that you could be wearing a robe or an enchanted piece instead.

Well it should reduce magicka... good or bad Skyrim is a jack of all trades game pretty much. The only limitations in terms of difficulty and roleplay is only restricted by you as the player
