Objective icons or way points should be red or blue cause its hard to find them on a all white map!!!

If you're on the PC, http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1327 is a rather nice little mod. Doesn't fix the overall fail of the default map, but it does at least colour-code the various markers.

People compare it to Google Maps, but really it falls well short of even that. Google Maps, in satellite view or even in Google Earth view, has road overlays.

Yes, I'm hoping that once the full comprehensive UI mods start rolling in that a proper map (more like Oblivion's) can be made. I also hate this Satellite tech in a medieval fantasy!

THIS! I want my paper map back.

Roads should have been made more clear, but it would have been better, if the map was like oblivion's, It really adds immersion having a map like that rather than some satellite in the sky.

I disagree. I found Obv's map so boring and bland to stare at.

But I would like to be able to see the roads. Oddly enough I was looking at the map I got in the game case and it had roads marked out but I couldnt find them ingame.

For e.g.: The map said there was a road going East from D.Star to Winterhold but while exploring the village I found only 1 entrance and that was to the South.

I really want something like Oblivion's map but colored. Tamriel has color technology for paper so yeah, I want Oblivion's map that's colored. But more importantly, SHOWING THE ROADS. Before I go on my killing spree of bandits as a werewolf, I'd like to see the fastest route to get there rather than stare a visually stunning map.

I agree, I spent nearly an hour just trying to get to the greybeards quest at the top of the mountain in the middle, I just couldnt find a way, I litterally circled the entire base of the mountaint about 3 times. Done my head in.

Why the hell do you need roads on your map? Can't you not get to places without roads? lol

I agree, I like the map as is. All I need is a general direction and Im off !

There were some nice maps produced for Oblivion; here's Thacadian's map, for instance, with Elsweyr added by Yian and Valenwood by me (the actual hard work of creating provinces were by Iliana and Eldarie respectively, I hasten to add, Yian and myself just created the maps!) http://vometia.com/images/tes/cyrodiilmappfull.jpg; I'd love to see something similar for Skyrim.

I always liked how far cry 2 showed the map, like this: http://i.imgur.com/QPQ18.jpg

Would be awesome to have something like that as well in game, rather than the big one we have now.

You know.
Roads usually lead to places. They're usually a safer, shorter, more convenient and confortable way to get to such places.
That's why they were built in the first place.

Hlvr's suggestion of an in-game map that you equip much like a weapon would be a great improvement and a natural expansion of the dual wielding approach.
Here's hoping TES VI includes it.

They nerfed it on purpose so they could license add-ons that provide a map that's actually useful, like http://www.dragonshoutapp.com/.

:o I never once thought about finding roads on the map, I just see the locations general directions and take off either on a worn out old road or off road(usually get sidetracked A LOT and end up going into a few baddie

infested areas before reaching my destination). The map is fine too, there have been a many times where I clouds clear up above a giant ruins that I notice while looking at the map peaking my interest for exploration

and going over to see what kind of ruins they are, I don't believe you could see that using a paper map from oblivion.

just add a painted map into game as object you can use as favorit when pressing 9 or so..

this is easy doable

maps for skyrim are many on the net...

Yeah, or they should change name of it because a "map" it is not. A map is functional, serves a purpose and helps you navigate. This thing is worthless and frustrating. I find myself constantly going back and forth between the game and the map that came with the guide, trying to figure out where I'm at and how to get to where I need to be. Then you have the stupid clouds always in the way obstructing what limited "view" you have. I liked the Oblivion map way more. You could actually use it. If it would just at least show the main roads...

I vote for an update that makes roads more visible on the maps. As pretty as it is (even if some people think it's unnecessary), I'd prefer a map that actually functions as most of us expect a map would... i.e., roads.
