Dual Wield, or Sword and Shield

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 8:30 am

I've heard good things about both and I know both are great in end game. However I'm looking for the one that is the most fun/best. Any opinions and experiences playing these two different styles?

Hey you have techno-viking as ur pic. Well back to the matter at hand I was looking forward to dual wielding but didn't like it. Now I have a upgraded dwarves shield and sword.

I prefer 2-hand but dual wield is a close second.

Shield is more interactive. Dual wield you just try to deal as much damage as possible so they die before you do. There isn't any finesse in combat.

I personally have more fun with 1h and shield because its more active and bashing correctly is more critical to success than just swinging two weapons over and over. Overall i enjoyed dual wield the least of the melee options but it was satisfying at times to kill stuff in a double power attack and the kill animations are pretty good.

I <3 Shield on my warrior, currently hes got full dwarven armour/weps and in first person mode feels badass standing behind this massive shield. The shield perks are very cool too, didn't like the feel of dual wield much and the dw perks don't seem that impressive, you get all the great 1h perks with shield anyway. Decapitating or sprint power attack with a mace is quite awesome.

One hand plus shield far more fun imo, plus, the level 100 block perk is really cool :)

dual wield is definitely all about dealing a lot of damage but it does deal a lot of damage. i dual wield maces and its worth it. don't get me wrong, i have a decent block stat, because some of those boss level creatures can't be dealt with with a few power attacks. i think both can be valuable

dual wield makes a nasty sneak attack but without block you get mauled pretty quick in a stand up fight. 2h gets a weaker block but it works good enough to survive a power attack, main reason I liked 2h is the double key press to switch from spells/bow to sword'n board, don't get me started about equiiping dual weapons... it does save one config as a backup to the bow but if you cast a spell it screws up and you have to pause the game to change gear which annoys me to no end. So I use 1h/sheild now. 2h also gets a much longer reach which can help but any bandit chief with a shield and sword will likely out swing you.

I would take 1h/shield over dual wield. Blocking attacks and causing enemies to stagger is more rewarding than slashing wildly at the air, hoping for a hit.

That said, I usually go with 1h/magic

I think sword and shield gets cooler kill animations too. Dual wielding you just get the double stab one over and over again.
