Ok....soooo soon after getting crysis 2, I noticed the wierdest thing to happen while playing, in both singleplayer and multiplayer regardless. Every 2 -3 minutes, sometimes not even that long, I'll be playing at a nice, high fps, and then BAM! 1 fps (If that) for 20 - 30 seconds. In that 20 - 30 second time, i am shot, blown up, and otherwise disembodied. Now, I found a way to fix it, but this is the wierd part. I have to UNPLUG my laptop from the charger cable, and then it won't lag every 2 - 3 minutes anymore. BUT another wierd part about this is that when I unplug it, the super random lag spikes dont occur, and instead i get a drop fps that is still SUPER annoying and makes the game unplayable. Also, the lowered fps is constant instead of occuring only once every 2 -3 minutes. SO! Heres my two choices I have right now:

1. Leave my laptop plugged in and suffer lag spikes of death every 2 - 3 minutes for 30 seconds at a time.

2.Unplug it, but have trouble moving the screen and shooting because the fps dropped significantly from unplugging it. (I have no clue why.)

3. - I would like a third option that fixes these problems, and I hope someone can help me out.... -

Also, I am using an ASUS laptop that was around 1500$, so its a good computer. It runs Nividia and has intel core duo.

That my friend is your laptops fault, and be happy its working properly, its a combination of Intel's C1E and Thermal Control, both kick in after your computer is getting to hot, your telling me your running C2 meaning your wee processor is running at 100% all the time to keep up. Which with any laptop only means Overheating, the CPU will both downclock or shut off to protect itself from melting which would mean your FPS gets slashed dramatically, even to 1fps, the CPU would stop working completely, your telling me it works on SP and MP, meaning its not the game doing this, monitor temps, if they go above 60c you know your problem. I dont know play in fridge or something......


brands could care less about CPU's as they only choose mainly Intel and AMD, meaning they all perform evenly,......... at the same frequency of course, but the norm is around 1.8.

So is there a way to fix it lol? or no...............also, i don't think playing in the fridge is a good option 3..... :S

Lift the back of your laptop a bit, get a can of compressed air and blow the air intake grills, dont Overclock, monitor your temperature, if you temp is ok try and keep you cpu throtled to max speed, make sure your gpu isnt downclocking, get a laptop cooler.

I play on i3 ati 5650 oc 700/950 and 8gb 1333 and i get average 60 fps anywhere between 35 - 80 fps no problem and temps below 68 celsius .

try to buy one of those laptop fans that are placed below them to flow fresh air into your laptop, and even better, place one of those bags with the freezing gel (i forgot the name) next to the fan, so it blows cool air into the laptop

if everything fails, maybe undercloaking the laptop might help, yes, it will reduce your performance a bit, but it would be considerably less hot, so it won't have to shut down every few mins

something about unplugging your laptop, unplugged most laptops will revert to a "balanced" or "power saver" mode where performance is cut anyways.
keeping the airflow vents an inch or more off a surface helps as well as the hot air expelled just heats up the surface your laptop rests on making it harder to cool it down and as previously suggested a laptop cooling fan would be a good idea as well. if your laptop remains too hot for to long your going to loose life time on it

Have you also tried running with the battery removed? Charging circuit won't be drawing power/increasing heat....

Hey man, sorry about your problem but I see this happen to my friends laptops all the time. First off, the other people are correct in saying your laptop is overheating. More importantly it's actually not your laptop's fault as much as it is yours More than likely you've been using your laptop on your bed to much and as a result your heatsink is clogged up! What you need to do is take the back of your laptop off and clean your heatsink. It's actually pretty easy but if you don't feel comfortable doing it, than have someone else do it for you. Just don't get cocky and accidentally damage your computer. Also, be sure not to use a vacuum on it or you will break a fan. Hope this helps. Good Luck!
