In game chat ( or lack of it!)

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 5:12 am

Hello, i just started playing this game and have realized that barely anyone ever uses chat..?!?!? Not even for the usual "WTF you sunk my battle ship" kinda stuff. I try to start a strategy or ask a question and never get a reply. This is especially annoying for *head set* chat considering i have a working mic and no one responds to me or talks to each other. Is this weird, or just me? Hopefully i'm missing something like a rank requirement or a package i have to buy to use voice chat.

PS: i have checked the options and it set to Un-mute all, and no other muting options as far as i can see.

Its probably because no matter what your ping is, there is about a 3-5 second delay between what you type and it showing up in the HUD. Plus player messages show up in the upper left of the HUD, where no one ever looks since all of the important stuff is on the bottom of the HUD.

Just a reminder lots of peeps(inclouding me) set mute all players because some dudes dont turn off their mics and i can hear all their **** which is quite annoying.

@dzonibegood

True, true... Although, I can see your microphone being active when we're in the match.. Since you don't have one (as you say), it's probably a bug or something... And, @aloveira , if you want to chat with someone while in-game, I suggest using EA Origin. It's pretty cool, as you can chat and browse the web while playing Crysis 2 or any other EA Games.

Thats because the chat is boring, messages come out delayed, and nobody even sees it there on the corner in ultra-tiny font.

i chat usually when im dead in assault...cos u have to wait for respawn... or in the 45 seconds in the lobby...
and sometimes speed-type a joke or comment at the 15 seconds before the round starts

in-game, its just too fast paced....sometimes its faster to use the mic, i have one though im shy to use it..
but some funny moments that have to be commented on, i would usually hide in a corner, cloak myself and type it out

Another reason why game chat isn't working is because of the limited chances to start, type and send messages, as well as a non-existant record (to players) of what was said. If people didn't read your message in the time it was sent they can't see it ever again.

You can only start a chat box when you're alive, if you're killed like a sitting duck the chat box closes to show off the kill cam and the respawn countdown, it doesn't erase your half-typed message thankfully but it didn't really give you time to finish it off either.

Someone said that chat messages used to end up on the console in previous games, knowing how to open the console myself would be one step closer to a more decent chat system other than allowing you to write messages in death.
