Forced Into a Thieves Guild Quest?

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 12:06 pm

Spoiler
Okay, so you know that part in the main quest where you must go to Riften to find Esbern hiding out in the Ratway? Well when you get there, you are approached by Brynjolf, and he asks you to plant the ring, etc etc. This I assume is the only way to get into the Ratway, right? I probably sound really stupid :/. Is there anyway to blow him off and get into the Ratway and get to Esbern without being forced into the Thieves guild? Thanks for any help. =] I just really, really don't want to join the thieves guild. =/

I too didn't like this. It sounds like the main quest forces you to "work" with a few of the different guilds.

Yeah, for instance, the

College of Winterhold. I'm not a damn mage, just let me enter briefly without joining, read a book or two about the Elder Scrolls, and then leave. WITHOUT JOINING.

Working with the different guilds is one thing (it's done in Morrowind as well, the main quest makes you do some work for the Fighter's Guild and Mage's Guild, and the Thieves Guild is needed to get started on the main quest), but forcing you to join is another.

I got through the Thieves Guild without joining though. I did the job with the ring and framing the innocent person, but I did it to get the information I needed. I haven't done any work for the guild since.

Yea, this happened to me too. It took me a minute to realize I had been duped, and that I was not on the main quest. I still have unfinished business or whatever it's called in my journal.

I'm carrying 9 non-removable "unusual gems" around just because I don't want to join Thieves Guild... an option to drop them off would be nice at least.

Oh man... This annoyed the crap out of me. Why can't we just sell them off to the TG without joining? The way the NPCs speak to you when you talk to them about an unusual gem makes it seem like you stole it which is not the case 99% of the time.

Those Unusual Gems, though they're not shown as stealing, you actually are stealing them. On my first character I picked it up and he was good. On my second character I picked it up and got called a theif... So I must of got away with taking it. It's not shown as item to steal but to take.

Is that what the heck these things are? Lord. I found one of them lying around somewhere and picked it up. I'm supposed to take it to an appraiser, but I haven't been able to figure out who that is, nor have I bothered much to find out really. I've been carrying it around forever. You have to join the thieves guild to get rid of it? Great...

Not only that, but you have to find all 24 of them before you can get rid of them.

I also have tons of other useless quest items in my inventory like an amulet of talos and some journals from quests i finished, and the ruby dragon claw, and some other stuff.... its annoying

And the reward after finding all 24 of them is rather meh. It would be great at lower levels, but realistically, by the time you find all 24 of them you're at a level where it is pretty useless.

I -

Spoiler
-framed poor Brand Shei, joined the Guild AND intimidated all the people into paying their 'taxes'...and then realised that ****ing 'A Cornered Rat' wasn't in my journal, that ****ing Delphine wouldn't mention it again, NO ONE would mention Esbern and, even when I went and found the *** manually, I couldn't get him to say anything.

PLEASE GOD LET THE 1.2 PATCH FIX THIS! I DON'T WANT TO GET TO LEVEL 30 AGAIN! >_< gaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh!
