Ok on the main quest ending on skyrim

Ok I would like to ask something
Spoiler
I have gone throught the main quest , and I found it really epic and well conceived but horribly short , I expected much muh much more epicness by such a good base and good plot that I can only hope they could make it not over qith Alduin etc in an expansion may be or may be follow your "desire to dominate typicl of a Dragonblood and become may be Emperor .... anyway ....

My question is

Since the main character is supposed to be the hero , why there is nothing vital about you to defeat Alduin?

when you go to Sovengard the main job is done by Tsun and the thre guys ..... you coudl even sit and watch , they have also the dragon shout to make him land , they have all the dragon shouts actually even more than you , they are more powerfull and they have Alduin right next to them .... why wait ? Why you are needed to Kil Alduin ? Coudln't they do by themselves , what's he reason to involve the player? I honestly do not feel so special as I do not feel that the main character had that of a vital role in the plot overall or may be I missed something?

They need the Dragonrend shout, at least, supposedly (maybe you can defeat Alduin without using it, I haven't actually tried). It's what theoretically makes him mortal enough to temporarily kill. Once you use the Dragonrend shout, a mudcrab can finish the job for all the plot cares.

But that makes no sense as I learned the shout from the same champions in sovngarde that "help" me defeat Alduin ... So why would they need me ?

Also they are also all of them three dragonborn?

I think Bethesda was trying to tie you in, make you feel a part of something larger. This isn't just about you the last Dragonborn but the dragonborn as a whole, symbolized by the first and the last of them drawing together to achieve the destiny for which they were originally conceived (the liberation and empowerment of mortals).

Now this runs counter to most everything leading up to this point as most of the game is just about the people in the world telling you how great and special you are, but if they had set it up more, say given you more of a chance to bond and rely on the first three, then fighting with them may have been emotionally satisfying rather then mechanically satisfying, which is fine by me.

No, they aren't dragonborn. THeir tongues. THe reason why the Dragonborn is needed (plot-wise) is because only the Dragonborn has a thu'um powerful enough to defeat Alduin. Remember that Alduin murdered one of the three heroes you fight with in sovngarde, and the other two couldn't kill Alduin, only temporally displace him.

I don't know about you, but by the time I took on Alduin, I had an armor rating of almost 1k, and a weapon that did over 300 damage per hit. I literally two-shotted Alduin. :toughninja:

That's probably close to how it was supposed to be, too: an epic hero, leading (not following) other epic heroes in a final showdown with the Big Bad. Brothers-in-arms (3 deceased, one still flesh-and-blood), fighting against the very end of the world.

That, and prophecy. The Last Dragonborn was supposed to at least be there when Alduin "died".

I'd advise turning up the difficulty slider if your finding Alduin a tad bit too easy. I'd also advise not doing the MQ in one fell swoop.

Its straight up stated by lore that Dragonborn are the only ones who can truly kill a dragon, even the most talented warrior would never beat them because they are fragments of Akatosh's immortal spirit. It is the Dragonborn's ability to absorb that spirit that makes him capable of killing them. So if Haldor and his group can kill dragons, they must be dragonborn.

Anyone can kill a dragon, in the sense that they stop moving and stop having biological functions (see, Gormlaith killing a dragon in the flashback, Cyrus killing Nafaalilargus, akaviri dragonguard killing dragons, most dragons that ever died during the dragon wars, Daedra killing a dragon on the Battlespire). But only dragonborn can absorb their souls, meaning that the dragon will be permanently out of commission, and cannot be resurrected by Alduin. The three heroes clearly are NOT dragonborn, because we clearly see that they do NOT absorb souls. They are merely tongues.
