Serving the Gods

Post » Wed Oct 14, 2009 10:22 am

I'm sure you all remember the glorious Daedric gods of Tamriel: 17 Princes of Oblivion. In Morrowind and Oblivion, activating a Daedric quest always entailed finding the patron statue of that god, activating it and completing their quest in order to obtain their reward - usually an exceptionally rare or unique item, such as Azura's soul gem or special weapons. You may also recall that in Morrowind, certain saints and patrons of the Nine Divines could offer the character quests for a reward.

So what I'd like is to start a discussion on how each of you think these gods and their related quests should be crafted in Skyrim. Should they be more like Morrowind's take, Oblivion's or something in an entirely new direction? Should we have entirely new gods to worship and serve, or instead focus on the factions who serve them?

Discuss!

Odd predicament, arn't the Daedra still being harassed by Jygallag? I suppose you could assist them in some side quest series agains't them.

If you don't mind me asking, what was Daggerfall's system like?

Oblivion had more Daedric shrines than Morrowind and I thought the quests were more unique, so for that aspect, I vote for Oblivion-style. Daggerfall had one more Daedric quest (Mehrunes Dagon's), but those quests weren't all too interesting, in my opinion. As for other religions, joinable religious factions are nice.

Basically you could usually only summon them on specific days. Personally I believe this is a good way to approach it in Skyrim as I don't think putting statues everywhere or immense Daedric ruins would fit in Skyrim.

Finding a Coven or some kind of Nordic summoner in a cave however sounds pretty nice.

Seems pretty involved, but I'd prefer something like that over the requirement offerings of Oblivion. Not to mention that I found actually locating and opening the quests too easy. There was little challenge involved with them, unlike the Morrowind versions, which could span across the world and require a lot of work.

I'm hoping they don't give us over powered lock picks again. :stare:

Also i want more unique items like the wabbajakka or the staff of corruption. Not those items gain though.

I like the idea of doing things for the factions that support the different Gods, and possibly even joining some.
And as the person above said, we certainly don't want another item that takes the whole skill of Security out of the equation, especially since the quest was so basic and easy.
