Skyrim really has set the benchmark for future games

Admitedly i've never been an Elder scrolls fan. Tried Morrowmind/ Oblivion but just seemed too hardcoe to me. I quit WOW after 5 years, played abit of world of tanks then was pondering what to do whilst i wait for SWTOR(star wars) to come out in december 22nd. I started playing skyrim thinking it might go the sameway as fallout 3 which i found boring.
So far this game has not ceased to amaze me. Ok i'm not a hardcoe player and only 30 hours into the game but i'm finding on my travels so many different things to do and see. Every dungeon is different. For me i don't see myself replaying another character as i'm happy being a melee nord on my travels. And i'll have visited all the places so exploration won't be as exciting/atmospheric . But even when i finish the game i will remember it with fond memories and look forward to any expansion out. Thats the key, i will be back for more as i feel this game will get better and better in expansion.
I even got invited to SWTOR beta over the weekend and played it for half an hour. Back to Skyrim lol. The atmosphere and incredible detail that has gone into this game is astounding.

I think you meant the game has *not* ceased to amaze you? :) I replay the Elder Scrolls games and even after years of playing Oblivion, I still see and find things I never saw before. Skyrim is even bigger and I wouldn't be surprised if you played it over and over again through the years because it took them more than 3 years to make it. With so many races and places, even without DLC, there's all kinds of replayability....and you can still enjoy the other games you love. I'm glad you're enjoying Skyrim.

Glad you enjoying TES , remember though skyrim is tiny compared to daggerfall :) , i think a lot of people played oblivion with its crazy levelling system and over complicated and usless way skill gain was implemented and judged the whole series on it.

Cool, though I think benchmarks should be made based on general consensus of the fanbase. There are areas in which other games in TES could serve better as benchmarks. But I could say that Skyrim definitely stands as the benchmark in dundeon design at least.
