Complete lack of Merchants/Blacksmiths

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 4:29 pm

I try not to fast travel at all, but the lack of places to sell stuff on my travels is really starting to irk me.

I travel all the way to Iverstad on foot, hitting up caves and stuff on the way, and when i get there.. there's noone to sell the stuff to. I have to travel another umpteen km to either riften or back to whiterun. Nice. I can understand its a small settlement that probbly wouldn't have a merchant, but not even a blacksmith?

Same thing with Morthal (one of the supposed major holds). Im doing stuff all around there, and the only people i can sell stuff to is a Barmaid and an Alchemist? What am i supposed to do with all these weapons and armor i've been picking up?

Somebody needs to mod in blacksmiths in all these small settlements.

Agreed in principal, but just to help you out, there is a blacksmith in the imperial camp near Ivarstead. You have to talk to him twice to see his wares/sell stuff.

I use a 10:1 (value:weight) rule for picking up loot. I'm in Morthal and both me and my companion are loaded down, and there's nowhere close to sell the stuff to.

grrrr

agreed that there could be some more, at least in the capital cities of all the holds and not just the "big 5"

I've found myself waiting outside of the shop in whiterun several nights for the merchant to get more gold. The only time its been OK is on my assassin when you get all of the merchants in the thieves guild and the fence has 4k. My warrior waits a lot....

Oh believe me this is a huge pet peeve of mine. In Oblivion it really was not so bad, fairly simple and easy. All the merchants were in once place given you an easy time to sell to them and be on your way. In this game? Not so much. The merchants are spread all over the dang towns making it a nightmare to sell things, especially if your over-encumbered.

And even if you so happen to get a decent amount of stuff, your spending more time running from merchant to merchant, town to town just trying to sell everything because their out of money. One shop had only 76 septims?!

Oh sure it gets better at higher level IF you invest points into the Speech Tree. I'm all about money being depleted from the merchant, but they should have more money and the shops should be closer together. Plus every town small or large should have some sort of merchant.

So IMO, Boo, to Besthesda for the shops in this game, a step down, not up from Oblivion.

I had to laugh cuz the exact same thing "rewarded" my efforts in those exact same places! Gah! Here I am lugging all this stuff around...

I downloaded a mod to fix the shopkeepers. They now have 2000 septims.

Whiterun is by far the best place I've found so far. Three smiths (two in Warmaiden, one by the Companions), the Drunken Huntsman, the Alchemist, the general junk guy, the enchanter up in the castle..... lots of money to be had in that city.

Yes, but the complaint is that they do NOT want to fast travel (a RP thingie), and there are areas of the game that just don't have enough merchants and those that are availabel don't have enough gold. While I have no qualms about fast travel, I do find that I spend far too much time traveling to the larger towns and then running around in them to unload my "aquired" wealth....

It's 10 times worse for a fledgeling theif, btw.

My personal solution? Don't pick up anything except books/gold. Unless you invest into speech perk tree, you'll have to walk or wait A LOT to sell everything.
