Perk Points

I don't know, perk points seem unnecessary. The way the autolevel works, shouldn't perks just open up automatically when you reach that level in skill? I understand that they want you to focus on a specific school for your points, but..um..why? Seems overly redundant since you have to jump threw so much hoops to even get to that level anyway.

perhaps
but there's certain perks you don't really want despite wanting (or just getting) to get a skill to a certain level
can't imagine my perks being wasted on lockpicking because I happened to pick a lock too many

plus it would probably give you too many perks in every catagory
plenty of perks I have the requirement for but no perk points to unlock them

The perk system maximizes the amount of customization you can apply to your character. Some skills, like the one-handed "Hack and Slash," may not appeal to me (not an axe lover).
"They" do not want you to focus on a specific school. You would be far too weak to get far in the game successfully and enjoyable if done so.

Yeah, the game has too many choices for your character already

Giving players the possibility to manually do something for their characters every time they level is a pretty nice thing. Howard even said that in an interview when comparing Oblivion to Fallout level up.

The ability of choice is nice, even if that's really just false choice (yet I don't think there's false choice in Skyrim).

I am not saying its horrible, it just seems unnecessary. Now, as for the leveling system itself, I have a love/hate relationship with. I DO love the fact that skills level up as you use it, but its broken if you want to level the skill up, but you just don't have that many opportunities to(and trainers cost a lot and hard to find). An example is speechcraft, I just don't sell enough or run into enough dialog to make it go up fast enough.

Sorry for the tangent, but they are sorta related.

yes, entirely unnecessary. the whole perk system is unnecessary. the whole game is unnecessary. FUN is unnecessary. in fact the only necessary thing is food and the ability to [censored] it back out. do you see where im going with this? you dont automatically "perk up" because this is a freaking INTERACTIVE medium, thats why.the whole point of playing video games is to live out a story instead of just watching it play out; to DO stuff. picking perks counts as stuff to do. auto-leve up does not. its as simple as that.

this is an RPG. you customize your character in an RPG, not have them develop on a completely linear and static path. i swear if i hear someone mention "necessity" in a forum dedicated to a game who's basic purpose is to distract you from the necessary again, i dont know what ill do :banghead: .
