errrm... i know all staffs are one handed and i think thats cool (even if there could be more staffs with some cool unique effect but hey....) but why are they so short? looks kinda ridicioulos if you wear one and i looks like a bigger spoon??

Why would you lug around a huge staff? It'd be unwieldy and have a lot of dead-weight. These are weapons of mass destruction, not walking sticks.

the one handedness of staffs is kind of cool but also kind of silly IMO
especially when I give my companion 2 staffs to hold and he goes around upstaging me by shooting dual fireballs all over the place

But to the Op's statement...yeah....Gandalf standing on a bridge staring down a Balrog saying "you shall not pass" would loose its visceralness if he had a spatula sized staff in his hand.

The size is fine, I think. My only beef with the staves is that they just appear in your hands. Same thing happens with weapons held in the left hand; it'd be nice to have two sheathes for swords or a http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SticksToTheBack for staves like there is with two-handed weapons.
