360 controller, what a waste of money (PC)

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 10:06 pm

After spending the best part of £40 on a 360 controller for this game, I've found it totally useless.

Why's it totally useless, it's because the view in 3rd person is not from behind the character so it's not even easy to see where you're running to.

Not found away to adjust the angle of view.

So if you're like me and prefer to play games in 3rd person view, then you're better off sticking with a keyboard and mouse.

Note: The 360 is fine for 1st person, but alas totally useless to me.

Hold down the right thumbstick like a button, and move the left thumbstick up and down.

Ta-da.

Press the anolog stick down and move around with the other to adjust view in 3rd person. I play with the 360 controller on PC and I personally think it is far better than PC controls at the moment.

I think you need to program the controller better. Most of the time you can't just pop it in and start using it, even if a game is made to allow controllers.

Wow I did not know that. I'm gonna go try that out. Sometimes it'll gradually zoom in for unknown reasons, and I had to switch to my mouse to fix it back.

Edit: Oh this is awesome. Now I don't have to switch to mouse anymore.

The angle of the camera in 3rd person is the same exact way with a keyboard...

And why would you want the camera to be centered behind you? How would THAT help to see where you're running if your character's back is in your face?

Thought I tried that, I'll try it again.

Even on mouse and keyboard it's not looking from directly behind, but it's less of a problem than the controller.

They use the exact same viewing angles... just different buttons.

To adjust the camera distance on the 360 controller, press and hold down the anolog stick using the other one to zoom in/out

Have you ever player MMOs?

They are usually behind and not to the side.

Although in Eve-online in their officers quarters the view is adjustable.

Using a Controller is like using chopsticks to eat cereal.

Thats why they made Spoons, Aka Keyboard and Mouse.

The angle I'm getting with the controller is far worse than with the keyboard and mouse. Nothing to do with the zoom.

If the character was square shaped looking down on it I'd be looking at the characters rear right corner.

Been running some tests ingame, the view angles on the controller are not the same as mouse and keyboard.

Even in 1st person view the crosshairs with the controller are not central.

So looks like it'll be back to keyboard and mouse.

How do you even aim with that thing?

In first person view you would probably shoot where the crosshair is, but running you would be bouncing off of the walls.

The only reason I am using a controller is because of the walking, jogging, running and sprint animations and movement in third person and even in first person, feel so much more fluid then a keyboards on and off buttons. On PC without the controller, I feel like I am running forward. I have no control of character speed. It is either running or pressing alt to sprint.

I'd be happy enough if the viewing angles of the controller were the same as the keyboard and mouse, but they're not even close. The angle of view on the character with the controller makes playing a non-event. Even worse when you consider even in 1st person view the crosshairs are not even central to the character.

Be wary fiddling with the FOV...I did it yesterday, and found that afterwards my splash screen lost most of the green/blue tints, so it all comes up coppery/pink on the statues/pictures it shows, and my map looks like it was done with very poor graphics.
