Decorating a house

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 12:55 pm

Wow decorating with items you've picked up on your journey is so hard. I want to do it but I just can't seem to get an item to be places right. Any tips? At least in fallout it was pretty easy but I can't seem to get anything to sit the right way. I really need help with this. When I do finally get it right after 15 minutes of messing with an item I feel a huge sense of accomplishment, I feel rewarded. Anyone habit this issue, am I missing something?

It depends on your taste... Just take the time and figure things out.

I have wet dreams about a 'place all books on bookshelf' feature with a 'alphabetical order, order by size, snap to' option. Yes I do.

Pretty much everyone does this, I know I do.

Who doesn't spend waaaay too much time trying to get that troll skull to sit "just right" on that dresser?

Onl;y to have it flung halfway across the room when you next enter... >.>

Hope tat patch does the job. :/

If I see something I might want later, I just toss in the room. In PC game, can't move and place like you can in FO3. Hopefully that will one of the things modders address....and I am sure they will. I stole all those statues.....sold em then stole em back for my own shelves. =P
Eventually I will get em all up!

I agree. Decorating in this game is an exercise in frustration. One of my favorite things in Oblivion was placing different items from my quests around the house, but it's almost impossible here. It should be better, I like how the bookshelves work, but my weapon racks don't work. Grabbing an item auto-centers it and automatically pulls it into you, making small adjustments very difficult. I guess it's a small gripe, but it would be nice if it was fixed in the future.

I gave up trying to place things so now i just buy a plain house and don't furnish it. It is a day job to place one vase upside properly. quite pointless in my book.

I love love love the bugs in a jar objects. I only have two (moth and glowbug) and hope there are more.

But trying to get them to sit up on their bottom is impossible. Oblivion was MUCH better for decorating than Skyrim. I hope some mod helps this out. Because I do love decorating a house.

A glowbug, awesome!

All I'll say is I have two also but neither are a moth or glowbug. ;)

I hate -Hate- that when you pick items up in this game it auto centers on the object. In fact I would have to say the step backwards in the way items are physically moved in the game compared to previous titles is my biggest complaint.

I'm serious, half of the fun I had in those games was collecting things to display in my homes, in Skyrim just trying to get something to turn 90 degrees is an exercise in frustration.

For now I'm just organizing things into containers, one of which is for decorative items like musical instruments and troll skulls. I'm not even trying to arrange things until things have been patched a bit.

Right now I just use containers.

I had collected one of each type of ale/mead bottle and had lined them up on the fire place mantle. Walked in once and they were all flying across the room.

I may use the weapon racks, but I haven't yet.

^ This.

I gave up after spending well over an hour decorating my Whiterun house. Damn Jarl's assistant never told me that there was a poltergeist in my house. So much for full disclosure.

This is all you need. I hope "Hugepinball" is playing Skyrim!! He was one of the best modders on Nexus in terms of coming up with stuff that one would think was impossible, haha

This link should help with decoration on PC. Not really my thing though.
