It means the game think that item is better than the one your currently using,

I'm not sure what this looks on 360 or PC, but on PS3, a triangle next to items and abilities means it's on your favorites. You can check this by highlighting anything that could be added to your favorites list, hitting the add/remove from favorites button and see if it makes the triangle appear/disappear.

On the PC the little upright triangle thing on the right side of the item means that the game is telling you that it thinks whatever you currently have equiped is not as good as that particular item. But be aware the game is not neccessarily comparing like items. So if you have a bow equipped and the triangle is on a two-handed weapon it just means that the base damage number is greater than the base damage number of your bow.

Skills and other factors are not, or at least do not seem to be taken into consideration. So if you can't even whack your own toes with a two-hander but can put the eye out on a rabbit and 400 yds with the bow it is still going to put the triangle on the greatsword or whatever.

Yeah, the 'preference indicator' is rather whacked; I have a Legendary Glass Bow that does insane amounts of damage, and the game still thinks I should be equipping a Steel Greatsword...

:shakehead:

I know it doesn't really matter, I just find it incredibly silly that it doesn't account for weapon improvements. :whisper:

It means the item may be potentially considered better than what you have equipped, according to the loading screen.
