A little trouble getting the "good" ending for the G

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 1:54 pm

So I'm trying to get a "perfect" ending (NCR route) in my current playthrough, and I've got most everything taken care of except for the Great Khans. What I want to know is, is there ANY way to get the "good" ending (i.e. convince Papa to leave the Mojave) without running into glitches? Every time I try do do that, the quest log tells me to report to Moore that the Khans have been "destroyed" (even though they haven't) and random NPCs will pvssyr about how the Khans were attacked and there were "no survivors" (even though they're all still alive). I can get around this by putting Regis in charge of the Khans and getting him to help the NCR - this get the game to acknowledge my decision properly, but it no longer gets the good ending for the Khans.

So my question is this - is it possible to get the "good" ending for the Khans AND avoid that glitch? Some particular order I have to complete the quest objectives in, perhaps?

You can't put Regis in charge without killing Papa. I don't kill Papa and the ending comes out right....but no alliance. So if you're fine with no alliance but want the Great Khans to have the better ending, just ignore the pvssyr about how they were destroyed. It'll be fine in the endscenes and you'll be happy with it...it's the good ending. Ignore the glitchy dialogue. :)

The ending with the alliance with NCR isn't better for them imho.

Yeah, I kind of figured that there was no way around it. I went the other way though - I killed Papa and put Regis in charge in spite of the "bad" ending you get. As much as I wanted the good ending, having the game not properly acknowledge what I've done while I'm actually playing is a bit too jarring and immersion-breaking for me. Not really worth it just for one slide in the epilogue.

As for the 'report to Moore' hint, it will tell you to report that they are dead regardless of whether or not you actually killed them due to a dialogue glitch. The ending slides will show the actual result as determined by your actions, however.

To get the "best" ending for the Khans you'll need a high Speech skill, as you have to convince Papa Khan to leave the area after getting him to break with the Legion. Upon doing this it will, as noted above, tell you to report the Khans' destruction to Moore, and that will be the only dialogue option with her to finish the quest. The game will know otherwise, however, but as there's no appropriate dialogue entries for this all you can really do is ignore any references from passersby to the Khans being wiped out.

While this is a glitch, you can always pretend you have to lie to Moore (and allow her to spread the news), because you *know* she would accept no solution other than the Khans being wiped out or joining the NCR, if you tell her you convinced the Khans to stay neutral, she might send a less soft-hearted assassin to do the job.

Right. I guess the game presumes that you lied to Col. Moore and said you had exterminated the Khans. If anyone went to check, they had already packed up and left the Mojave. The ending montage gives you the news that they hooked up with the Followers and built a "mighty empire" in the Northwest.

That's the ending I like for them, too. I mean, I got the Boomers (and their bomber), the Brotherhood, and the Remnants to support the NCR, so I figured we could let the Khans quitely slip away. Except for Whatshisname the Punk, who joined the Followers.

I did a quest chain (for the Yes Man robot after I killed Benny) that allowed me to persuade Papa Khan to take the Khans out of the Mojave, and was able to report same to Colonel Moore. Is it too late for you to do this? You don't have to go back to the Yes Man and do the Independant ending - you can still do the NCR one. Dunno if this helps.

You reckon it's a glitch? I always figured i way lying to Moore.
I guess i'm too immersed...

You basically are lying to Col. Moore, however there is supposed to be relevant dialogue from related NPCs for each quest option, and in this case there isn't which is the aforementioned glitch (it could also be a misdirected 'call', but I haven't bothered checking as that's a lot of dialogue to comb through).

You're right that it helps with immersion the way it is now, but I'd still like to see it fixed cause I'm picky like that. :D

Still. Col. Moore might just finish the job if you didn't. If you didn't kill Mr. House, she plans to send someone else to finish him off. Of course, the game essentailly forces you to kill him, since it won't let you disconnect him without exposing him to the outside; he just dies a few months later is all.

Cassandra Moore is one cold-blooded bit... ah, woman. Snuggling up to her in bed would be like rolling in a snowbank in your boxers.
