Need some help getting Lydia to equip a specific piece of armor. What is the command I need? Also, any recomendations for attractive clothing for female companions?

Tavern outfit is nice if you like them showing a bit of skin, if you have it on PC you can usually cheats to make a super high smithing skill and make the armor superior to whatever she is currently wearing (sadly does not work with clothes)

I have it on PC, is there a console command to force an npc to equip an item?

You on PC? Oh, duh, should have read.





Kill them, strip them (which is another console command, look it up), console command resurrect them. There, it should stay and work. Although you do have to give them something that they would use.

For some reason I often can't get them to use weapons that are actually better than their base weapons, especially bows. I give them some upgraded ebony bow and they keep using their crappy hunting bow.

No followers with archery seem to use any bows you give them. I tried 3 different characters that used bows and none of them used the bow I would give them. even gave them 3 powerful bows to choose from and they only ever used a basic bow which they didn't even have in their inventory
