So would like to know dose oakskin and heavy armour work together? Making a cleric build and was thinking oakskin would help me tank abit more.

It does function together. It works terribly, though, because you're essentially leveling about a third faster than you otherwise would, for a diminishing % of protection that only lasts a minute. Ironically, you get better protection in the long term by not using it than by using it.

In other words only use it when you really need it.

So maybe if I save it fot boss fights. Don't want to lvl to quick. I did notice heavy armour still lvls up with oakskin on so that's cool. How you mean you get better protection without it in the long term? Any one got any more insight in to this please?

Because the game scales with your level, unnecessary leveling will give you stronger opposition without really helping your skills. I think that was his point. Also there is a armor cap at 676 I think, which mitigates up to 85% physical damage. It's pretty easy to reach that armor rating through heavy armor alone.

Personally I use oakskin (and the later versions) to level alteration. Sure I level faster, but I also get the 30% magic resist perk (very worth it) and the ability to cast detect life/death and paralysis later on.

I thought it was 576.... allows me to use sixy steel plate instead of scary daedric!

i hope its 576 :(

Whichever it was, you can definitely hit the armor cap in any armor in the game. Most definitely for heavy armors like steel plate.

Level scaling is not nearly as ingrained in everything you do as it was in Oblivion. In my old game, I didn't run into snow saber cats until level 20. I'm running into snow saber cats at level 3 on the islands near Winterhold. (Fortunately, cats hate water, and I can just stand in waist-deep arctic water with ice flows floating by forever without getting hypothermia while summoning more fire atronachs.)

I wouldn't worry about not using magic that is actually useful in combat just because you don't want to level up. Maybe hold off on smithing or alchemy until you're ready to really use it, but go for the things that are actually useful in combat, and play how you like, not how you are worried will make you have the best stats. Pretty much everything is broken at the high-end, anyway, because Bethesda can't balance games to save its life.

Incidentally, if you abuse smithing/enchanting/alchemy, you can actually hit armor cap with nothing but the fur armor. That way, you can have a "hunter/huntress" that runs around bare-chested/in a fur bikini, and blocks greatswords with the mighty power of their abs.

As I said, the game's broken, so don't worry about having to try very hard to win.
