The Northern Waters of Skyrim

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 1:07 pm

I decided to take a break from quests and decided to go explore the vast open waters of Skyrim. I swam as far as you can go in the northern part of Skyrim, even past the Northern Marshes.

I was getting excited to stumble across an unmarked sunken ship, or a pile of lost treasure, or maybe even a former explorer that ran out of water breathing potions and sunk to the bottom of the sea, leaving behind his treasures found during his own adventures.

Ten minutes pass, and I'm scouring the ocean floor in search of anything interesting. I see something in the distance. I get closer and closer to what looks like could be my first under water discovery.

As this discovery emerges from the dark, foggy waters, I realize what I had stumbled upon was an old, sunken tree.

I was exploring for 20 minutes thinking I may find something interesting since there was so much un explored, vast waters and small glacial islands all around and the most interesting thing I find is a tree.

Is it so much to ask to add things that don't have a map icon? Especially in places on the map that are huge and explorable? When I get bored of questing I love to just explore the world. Yeah, caves are fun, they are unique. But why have so much empty and explorable space when there's nothing to discover?

I love Skyrim, but there's little things like adding small things to explore that would make the exploring of skyrim so much more epic. The feeling of finding something interesting in some place you wouldn't think to look is awesome. Wish there was a lot more of that in Skyrim.

I know this doesn't help much, but one of the first things I'm going to do is make a mod out there in the ocean.

You are wrong, there are so many things that you can find by discovery on your own, stuff that isn't linked to any quests. I got my most epic quest in that way which I found by just exploring the outter reaches. Hint, go north of Mage College, search for small cave.

That would be awesome. I'm on 360 now...but will have to get the pc version when mods start going. So much potential with Skyrim

Let the mods take care of it, Bethesda has much more urgent tasks at hand. Oh and I also spent coupler hour under water and I like the way it is right now

What exactly am I wrong about? I'm only stating that I wish there were MORE things to discover outside caves and dungeons. I'm not wrong about there being LOTS of space that wasn't used for anything. It's not very fun exploring a part of the map to find out there was absolutely nothing there.

the problem is rather that even you can find sunken ships, the only thing you will find there are gold which you find everywhere else or MAYBE an item that you can find everywhere else as well...

This is completely true. Even if they DID have much, much more to explore other than caves, dungeons etc. (Which they don't) the loot is always the same. With the occasional ebony sword of fire or something.

More loot, rare items and more things to discover would make a huge difference imo. Also, unmarked discoveries are always a lot more interesting to stumble upon rather than seeing a cave icon you haven't yet discovered.

There's a lot of unmarled points of interest, especially up north. I even came across a mammoth frozen into the ice.

Just because you didn't find anything out in the water in northern skyrim does not constitute evidence that there aren't plenty of untied, interesting locations. It only identifies that there is nothing in the water north of skyrim. Maybe you should try exploring where things actually are . . . like land. Also there are a few untied crashed ships in the northern beaches.
