What is the "correct" way to enter Nellis Air Force

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 3:47 pm

I was using direct path to travel from Crimson Caravan Company to Nellis Air Force Base. When I am near the base, I saw the warning sign so I run as fast as I can toward the base...

However I didn't make it :sadvaultboy:

Can anyone tell me what is the correct way to go there? So that I will not mark as intruder.

you will inevitably be fired upon, no matter what. the trick is to find cover. there is this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-lM2It2vQM that shows you how. hope it helps.

1. If you have companions with you, make them wait at a safe place, such as Fields' Shack. They will get knocked about (and die in hardcoe mode) if they're with you for the first run at Nellis.
2. Holster your weapon (you'll run faster) and run for the first wrecked house you see. Hide in the one (mostly) intact corner until the first wave of artillery stops.
3. Run west toward the high ground and the rocks, then turn north, hugging the rocks, and make a beeline for the Nellis fence. The Boomers will not fire on you when you reach the fence.
4. Turn east and hug the fence until you get to the front gate. Wait for Raquel to come over to talk to you and open up the gate.

You should be able to make it inside with very little (if any) damage if you follow this route.

I usually just run to the next house closer to the fence then run to the fence itself and follow it to the gate. Some just hug the rock wall and run down to the fence

I just make sure I have plenty of Turbo and make a mad dash for the front gate, although running left and right (can't shoot a moving target, right?) and drinking Turbos as I go. I don't bother about hiding. I could never get the hang of finding cover, which way was west and all that. What that guy said just went in one ear and out the other for me

The 'correct' way is to ignore George's obvious scam.

If you've got the patience, get Lockpick to 90 and break in via the train tunnel. Once out the other side, just run down the tracks without stopping.

My preferred method:

1. Approach the shelled area until the firing starts. Get back behind the cliff face and wait for the artillery to stop.
2. Run along the cliff face (left side of the shelled town).
3. The firing will resume about the time you reach a small hollow in the cliff. Hide in it.
4. Wait for the firing to stop again (12-14 shots).
5. Run straight to the fence. Run along it until you reach the Nellis gate.
6. Make nicie-nice with the sentry and Raquel, and they will take you to Pearl. You're in.

Scam? It's the furthest thing from a scam in the game. The criteria: you return alive and make money. If you die, you start over. No matter what, you'll come back to him alive and make a profit.

My way is simple and reliable:

1) Highest DT LIGHT armor (Space suit, All-Purpose Science Suit, Leather Armor, Reinforced all work; Vault 34 Security Armor is ideal). Pop a Whiskey and a Nuka-Cola Quartz, and you have the highest DT you can have while still running fast.

2) Med-X+ Slasher for 50% Damage resistance.

3) Run like hell straight for the gate.

One dose of turbo and run like the wind. Have followers wait someplace.

It's really that simple.

You dont get DT from whiskey without Cass though.

Good point. If you're playing hardcoe, subtract the Whiskey from the recipe. If you're playing non-hardcoe, add Cass :)

My way:

A. Get a Stealth Boy
B, Wait Until about 3 a.m.
C. Pop your Stealth boy and then run alongside the mountain straight. The artillery can't get you as much. This path will take you straight
to the bottom of the hill facing the Nellis AFB fense. The firing willl stop and you can walk to the gate.
D. Talk nicely to the guards. THey'll get Rachel and she'll let you in.

the best, easiest and quickest way is George's way. Just hug the far left and just walk to the fence. You may take some splash damage, but nothing serious. It's so pathetic and easy there is no point for the Boomers to even shoot at you. No need for med-x or Turbo.

George FTW

The Boomers must have some seriously hardcoe security if they can see you even when you have a Stealth Boy on (don't know if they can, I never needed to try).

The bombardment is scripted. They can "see" you even if you could have 50 trillion in Sneak

Oddly I never had a problem. As long as you don't trot all over the place and hug the sides, you'll be fine. And don't give into that guy who offers you information on how to get through - rip off!

I usually make a save at the railroad tracks parallel to where George is, just in case, then run the rails for a while until the rocks rise up, at which point I run down one of the 'canyons' thus created to reach the fence. The bombardment cannot reach me there, and in the process I divert the shelling away from the crater containing two dead BoS troopers which keeps one of them from being blasted out and disappearing (I hate losing valuable swag, and I always do their quests so I want to preserve the note). I rarely use Turbo when doing this, although it helps as I tend to take a fair amount of splash damage on the way to the 'canyons'.

I just read George's note again, maybe I was wrong. I thought he suggested just hugging the left wall. That's all I do.
