Chunky DirectX 11 patch coming for Crysis 2

Crytek are working on a substantial reward for PC gamers who have stayed with the franchise despite Crysis 2 staying very much in DirectX 9 territory due to the game also being developed for consoles.

The reward is coming in the form of a hefty patch which will add support for DirectX 11 to the PC versions and bringing back the trademark cutting edge visuals that made the original title so special.

Crytek boss Cervat Yerli explained: "Crysis 1's intention was, if I were to play it three years later, it looks great. And it does, actually, it fulfilled that. But it made it difficult for entry-level players. So with Crysis 2, we took a different direction, and it backfired a little bit."

He added: "This is much more like a gift to the high-end community and I think gamers will appreciate that. It lifts up Crysis 2 and gives a sneak peak of how PC gaming will evolve in the future, if you support a high-end preference."

The latest patch for the PC version of Crysis 2 will be available from Monday the 27th of June and included a whole raft of graphical improvements that take advantage of the improved technology available with DirectX 11.
