Is it "Companion-Friendly"?

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 11:51 am

I've never really been interested in playing with a Companion before, but something about Vilja just, I dunno....speaks to me. I haven't played with her yet (boy, that sounds wrong), but her mod is installed & enabled, so when I can find the time to meet her @ the Bloated Float, I'll see how we "get along". Anyway. I was reading her, umm...readme...and I see that she pays close attention to whether a bed or a chair is owned; also, the mod author (whose name eludes me at the moment--a thousand apologies!) made mention of other housing mods being "fully path-gridded", which means precisely jack to me.

So here's where I stand: I need to know if certain houses are, as they say, "companion-friendly". I've already made use of http://emmates.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=oblivion&action=print&thread=181, which sort of obliquely mentions the house I'm interested in using (namely, Battlehorn Castle)--but what about the others? Like the big gorram house in Chorral--you know, the one you paid way too much money for and has a spare bed? Or, FSM help you, the monstrosity in Skingrad? Sure, you can hire that one Nord chick from the shop down the way to come stay there with you, but what about mod-based companions?

I imagine this information already exists somewhere out there in the ethernets, but my search-fu is teh svck. If someone could just point me in the right direction (and yes, I already rummaged through the UESP), I'd be ever so grateful.

Thanks much!

Emma is the creator of Vilja (together with CDCooley) and she has started a list of companion friendly houses, here: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1147720-looking-for-companionfriendly-houses/.

TimeLord, I believe that all the vanilla playerowned houses in Oblivion should work very well.

In fact, most houses do work OK, even if they are not properly path-gridded, as long as there isn't ownership assigned to beds and chairs, because then Vilja will just be standing all the time. There are exceptions that don't work at all - I in particular remember a house I tried where the pathgrids somehow had ended up outside the interior, which meant that Vilja was running around in the void instead of inside our new home. But, if it doesn't work, you will notice it. I added the text to the readme also to explain to people what might be up if Vilja suddenly seems to function, well, not so good, in the house that is supposed to be your home.

I hope that you will like Vilja and have lots of fun in Cyrodiil in her company! :)

Ye gods, how could I forget your name? I'm so sorry. Thanks for the reply, though--and good to know!
