Are daggers faster then swords?

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 1:52 pm

on the loading screen it sometimes says, swords swing faster then axes, axes swing faster then maces. i was just wondering do daggers swing faster then swords? im a khajit assassin who specializes in archery but when the enemy comes close or theres to many too many coming at me so i need to switch to a faster wep. anyway i know that daggers and bows are silent, but are daggers also faster at swinging then swords?

They have a higher crit chance and do a different backstab animation (throat slit). They feel about the same speed as a sword, though.

They are faster, and with perks get you 30x more damage on sneak attacks, basically killing most enemies. From behind in sneak can activate throat slit animation, which I must confess, I am adicted to.

From perks you get x15 on Sneak attacks. To get x30 you need bracers with Shrouded adjective(Most easily found in Dark Brotherhood) which double sneak attack damage. Or you can enter Berserk as an Orc which will double it further(up to x60).

Or you can get Mehrune's Razor which has a chance to instantly kill.

And let me tell you: that chance is pretty high.

They are also subject to some special, back stabbing, sneak perks the same way that archery is.

Won't help you much "toe to toe" but with a sneak that's always gonna be your last resort.

By the way, its always a good idea for sneak anyway, but you'll definitely wanna keep some poison's around for when that happens.

i read somewhere the chance is only 1%, cant find it anymore tough..either way think its crap since you kill everything with backstabb anyway...rather had a 50% armor ignore or something on it...would make it more useful in face-to-face fights...

there is another dagger called vlad's lucky dagger or so...its a steel dagger so thats crapp...but it has a 25% chance to do critical damage...depending on how much more critical damage is this could be good...

They have a higher crit chance

Any source for that? I cant find that kind of information ANYWHERE and have only EVER seen criticals where they were guaranteed via a perk.

16x backstab with a dagger.
I've seen throat slitting with both dagger and one handed sword.

Swords are better as you do not gain the % damage increase from enchants on daggers only on swords so your x30 sneak attack quickly turns to poo compared too fully enchanted One-Hand % gear.

Daggers are faster, it's a fact no matter what, they are lighter than swords, more agile than swords and easier to use.
While swords are heavier it doesn't seem to have any effect in the game, they both look as fast when you use them.

But daggers are handier for Sneak and all that good stuff.

Daggers don't affect your sneak chance where other weapons will increase the chance you're spotted. Also, if you swing your dagger and miss monster's don't react, whereas using a sword will mean they'll hear you and turn round.

Plus there is the whole RPG aspect to it...
