"Yerli admitted that there was
no profit to be made from the time and money put into the patch, as the game is
unlikely to sell many more units based on the free upgrade." Man, we need to promote this game everywhere!
I wouldn't go that far as to promote it for them, its naive to think Crytek wont profitise from this, remember whilst units of C2 might not ship out, licenses for CE3 will, especially considering the next gen XBOX is also running DX11 so in the end it was more of a necessary move to ensure CE3's success on PC and future gen platforms.
That said I am nonetheless grateful that Crytek have provided this patch to PC gamers and am growing less and less disappointed with the game as each day passes.
*Also, I think C2 will ship a fair few more units if this patch lives up to expectations, Crysis sold just as many copies for the graphical fidelity as it did gameplay, I know many people who will buy this game purely based on the fact it runs DX11.
This is a very good point you are making. If you read the article very closely you may notice a couple things.
If you didn't, allow them to point them out for you
First:
"So with crysis 2 we took a different direction and it backfired a little bit" This is where he actually claims to have never intended it to be the graphical powerhouse crysis was....
Then it says "The change disappointed many of the original game's fans, WHO came to equate the franchise with cutting-edge graphical performance." This is ridiculous because it was not the fans who started that comparison it was Crytek themselves. Like 5 sentences before that he says ,"Crysis 1's intention was, if I were to play it three years later, it looks great. And it does, actually, it fulfilled that." So forgetting all of the remarks that were made constantly by Crytek about the looks of crysis 2 and how it would be dx11 and the best looking game ever, there's still more ****. It would appear Crytek is confused as to why when an unknown developer creates one of the best selling and most technologically advanced games (As well as receiving tons of critical claim), that when they then announce a sequel to that game it would be assumed to use at a minimum the same technology but more likely much more advanced technology.
Second:
"This is much more like a GIFT to the high-end community," said Yerli. "And I think gamers will appreciate that. It lifts up Crysis 2 and gives a SNEAK PEAK of how PC gaming will evolve in the future, if you support a high-end preference."
Forgetting how this makes it seem like dx11 work didn't start until after the game released, it's very offensive they would call this a gift. If they claimed crysis 2 was dx11 and it was supposed to be like that on purchase then its just a contractual promise. Also, it is a ridiculous statement to say dx11 will sell no more units and wont give us profit. Let me explain this in a less **** way.
Crytek is known as a "franchise with cutting-edge graphical performance." They also made several comments about dx11 and an official one while the game was released. So it is hilarious he doesn't release the fact everyone always knowing dx11 was coming helped sell A LOT of games. So he's selling a bunch of games with anticipation of dx11, he has no real deadline cause he gives no information, and finally he releases it (Which i must add if he didn't people could demand their money back for breach of the purchase agreement) This sounds far from a gift and I don't appreciate that. I'm happy you are releasing the patch but I'd be much happier if you offered a public apology. Your PR skills are kinda sketch.
Anyways, I'd finally like to add a bit of disappointed about how they say it will only be a "Sneak Peak" into the future of gaming. He said Crysis 1 was supposed to be future proof 3 years and yet crysis 2 is just high end on current gen. It makes me sad when companies show little respect for the consumer because they feel we are less intelligent in some way. Like we are easily distracted or can't remember anything longer than 3 months ago.
Crytek has to understand they made a lot of mistakes with this game. I'm not trying to say it's a horrible game, just that it had a ton of problems and there was HORRIBLE communication from Crytek. I'm speaking only on behalf of myself;however, I would like to say I would ALWAYS spend a little more money on a company I trust and I know will treat me right as well as be easily reachable.
Just my two cents.
