[RELz] Tamriel Rebuilt Artbook

Post » Thu Oct 15, 2009 3:02 pm

As you may know, Tamriel Rebuilt somewhat recently made the decision to end our work on the Hammerfell project, letting it become its own self-sufficient project apart from our team and website.

However, while it was still being worked on, we had some incredible and beautiful work done, by anyone's standards. I'm talking, of course, about the concept art produced for the province. Concept art is one of the largely unseen aspects of any project, whether it's a game, a video, or TV show, or a mod like Tamriel Rebuilt... simply because most people never see about it or hear about it unless looking for it intentionally.

This is unfortunate on many levels, since often times the art is infinitely better or more pleasing than anything we could hope to create in the mod. Because of this, and because we aren't willing to let our CAs' work go silently into the night, we've had our Head of Concept Art (Myzel--a talented Concept Artist in his own right) put together an artbook of much of the Hammerfell art done at the project over the years. Although it won't be hosted on a mod website such as PlanetElderScrolls, we like to think of this as a release to the community for their enjoyment, and to let everyone know that artists, too, are modders.

You can find a link to it on our Downloads page at the top link bar below our 'Tamriel Rebuilt' header.

Technically not a mod, but a release nonetheless:

We hope you enjoy it as thoroughly as we did!

Downloaded. Thank you.

There's some really nice stuff here. You've had a bunch of very talented artists working on this. I hope it will provide inspiration for others, and that we will see some of this stuff in game at some point.

In all seriousness, looking through that art book has made me want to force Blender down my girlfriend's throat... she's been wanting to try sculpting, and I figure 3d modeling might be good practice! Seeing all the beautiful stuff you had planned... I hope Beth learns something from it. E.g., hire the artists! XD

Amazing. Only looking at these pictures, I already get the feel of that province.
These artworks show that your team has been perfect for Hammerfell. All the small details, all the interesting perceptions of various elements of Hammerfell lore... one can imagine that you wouldn't have simply taken a West RPG and put it in an African setting somehow. At least, that's what I get from these artworks.

Thank you very much for releasing this artbook. :)

Looks great!!! Very, very nice book! I think that would be great also if it could be made into in-game book, Hammerfell Encyclopaedia!

Wow, this is absolutely brilliant! I can't remember who, but someone said that the art here is reminiscent of Morrowind's concepts, and I'd have to agree with them. They offer more than just what so-and-so might look like, they also give you a glimpse into the Redguard culture with every piece. Number 30 really caught my eye, it's just wonderful.

Thanks for releasing it!

Nice work. :trophy: Sadly, it?s easier to imagine something and draw it than build it in 3d and make it work in a game world. Otherwise, Hammerfell wouldn?t had to be left behind.
