How many NPC followers can you have at once?

Also it it possible to have them wear weapons / armor? I have tried this but I usually end up just wearing the stuff myself.

IIRC I think you can only have one follower. :sadvaultboy:
You can give them weapons to use // armour to wear, should be the 'x' button that gives them that.

I had done that but hadnt noticed them wearing it, I thought they just held onto it for you :-/
