How do Resist Element, Resist Magic, and Absorb Magic stack/

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 11:01 pm

Basically: if I have 60% resist magic, and 40% resist fire, and some mage tries to throw a magical fireball at me. Am I effectively 100% (sum?)? 60% (max?)? 76% (multiplicative?)? Is there a %prevention cap like there is for armor and physical damage? I've heard Resist alone has a cap at 85, but I don't know if that other 15 could then be prevented or reduced by a different effect, like an elemental resist. Or is 15% of any magical attack guaranteed to get through?

Multiple absorb effects - do they stack additively? Are they capped?

Surely somebody knows something about these effects' interactions.

This is a really good question I would also like to hear answered.

There is some sort of cap or diminishing returns on it.

My crafted suit has 60% magic resist along with 37% fire/shock. I'm a nord which means 50% frost, and I have elemental shield which is 50% to all when my shield is raised.

All that being said I do still take damage from frost ancient dragon breaths, though not very much (perhaps 25-50 damage in total from a full breath).
