My newest problem with steam

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 5:56 pm

Steam is a resource hog that crashes my game about a dozen times a day. Has Bethesda given their official apology for steam yet? I want to uninstall it so I can play the game with out so much trouble.

Steam failed at it's intent, has Bethesda launched an official statement justifying it's usage of steam. It failed at anti-piracy. It hinders performance and you have a massive community opposed to it. I would like to know what Bethesda thinks about this. Steam proved useless and counter productive and the only reason it didn't kill sales of the game is because everyone knew for a fact the game would end up being as awesome as is it. Since the piracy people already did their part, does bethesda think they'll make a penny off the DLC's? "I do not encourage piracy" but I acknowledge the reality of it. Steam's influence in this game WILL drive customers to piracy and the intent of adding steam will result in being counter productive. I hope Xbox DLC sales work for them, because Playstation is as full of hackers as the PC community.

I activated my legal copy. I want to uninstall steam now. It gets in the way.

Before you knock my computer trying to claim that steam isn't the weakest link:
quad core 2.5 AMD
6 gigs ram
nvidia 450 GT

I play the game on high graphics with a nice frame rate. Steam doesn't hurt my frame rate, it just outright crashes randomly. Steam is what's wrong with Skyrim, fix it.
(I wouldn't mind being able to jump while sprinting either.)

I know someone who was actually going to buy a legal copy of Skyrim, but because of Steam requiring Internet Activation and he doesn't have the internet he was forced to get the illegal download instead.
This may be 2011 but not everyone has internet access. I wonder how many £30's they have lost out on because of going with steam.

In my experience I have seen that actually many games lose out on alot of money because of their DRM and they would have made alot more if they just didn't have one. Settlers 7 is another example of a great game ruined in the same way.

No that would be skyrim itself. Get the mod to trigger the LAA flag so it can use more than 2GB of RAM.

I've been using Steam for almost 6 years already and I've never had any issues with it. I have 50+ games on Steam and they all work just fine.

The problem is probably on your end.

WHAAAAAAT?????

so, he doesnt have internet so he cant activate it on steam.......but he then goes on the internet, to download the illegal copy?

lol

honestly, the only time i have ever seen a person with steam related issues when it comes to "resource hogging" or crashing...its usually less to do with steam and more to do with the person using it, or the computer its on

I said he got the download. I didn't say he downloaded anything himself.

Keeping on topic though. I use steam and never had any problems with it. 90% of the games on my computer go through them and I pretty much just leave it running whenever I am on the computer. It doesn't really affect any of my games.

I hate Steam with a passion.

It crashes my game regularly too, mostly when I do screenshots, and I hate that it HAS to run for me to play my game. I would be ok with registering Skyrim on Steam and then deleting the crap, but you can't do that either, now can you?

oh good, clarification helps.

usually things can be taken the wrong way, so its best to try to read it how others would see it, and not how you see it in your head

What?

x2. I couldn't quite follow the logic there.

I've got loads of games on Steam - I just picked up another shed load that I'll never have time to play that they were practically giving away in the black Friday sale - I've never had any problems with it (Fallout 3's Games for Windows connection DID give me a massive framerate hit however, so I'm very glad that's gone).

you do realize you can disable the ingame overlay so it doesnt effect your game at all right?

I think the biggest issue here is actually Skyrim and not steam. Skyrim only uses 2gig of ram, which honeslty is nothing these days. I have 16 in my computer so Skyrim only uses a small part of it.

My computer is very highend, but because of the game using so little of my computer, it would constantly lag out and crash. This isn't a problem with Steam (as some I know thought it was) but is actually a problem with Skyrim.

Download http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1013 and your problems will be gone. It allows Skyrim to use 4gig instead of just 2, increasing the performance of the game by a massive amount.
