the positive skyrim thread

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 12:07 am

i feel like bethesda has listened to a lot the people wanted but that gets totally ignored on these forums. so heres my list what i appreciate in skyrim as an elderscrolls game:

- the world is badass, dangerous and exciting to explore again. i meet enemies that are too strong where i have to come back later and i cant go past a sideway ive seen without exploring it. i was missing that feeling in oblivion.

- fast travel has options for everyone now. i didnt use it in oblivion but in morrowind, so im glad they put the world-fitting horsewagons back in. so i dont have to walk across the whole map for delivering a potion or something every time.

- ...what leads to the next point: in oblivion, it didnt make a sense to me that guilds in anvil would give you a quest in leyawiin, even though they have a house there too. its kinda solved the cheap way by having only one house per guild in the world but it still adds to the immersion for me

- graphics are very improved in a way that you can see buildings across the whole map now and you have waaay less popups when you move (that was a huge killer for me in oblivion despite the crispy graphics when you were moving slow)

- more voices, characters seem more alive

- random conversation dont sound that stupid anymore

- unnatural city walls are gone. in those places they exist they absolutely make a sense.

- enchanting as a skill is back

- dual wield

- crafting is a really nice addition

- dungeons and world areas feel more unique

go on!

Here are just some of my likes:

- No more creepy zoom in when talking to NPCs, much more natural they go about doing stuff while talking to you.

- Water actually has actual currents in them.

- Caves no longer have a stupid door

- Windows that actually illuminate at night

- A levelling system that actually not force me to grind anymore like in Morrowind and Oblivion to get +5 attribute increases

- Alot more small little critters running around in the world making it feel more alive.

- More random NPCs that actually travel around the world that also makes it feel more alive.

- Addition of children (while may not necessarily be a good thing sometimes) makes sense at last in the TES universe.

- Decapitations that are tastefully done.

- Dungeons that are actually beautifully crafted and feel fun to explore in.

+ much better story than oblivion.
+ love the political backdrop of civil war in cities, dividing loyalties make the folks of skyrim much more interesting.
+ Better NPC banter
+ Dungeons are sick
+ Little details rule.
+ love the new camra system during conversations

Skyrim is better than Hero's Quest. Except being a thief isn't as hilarious

I'll give it this; perhaps the single merit to this game that not I nor anyone else can dispute. Beards, gods willing, we can finally have beards again.

I really liked how you sound on the horse, the galloping sound makes you feel like you really horse riding (instead of setting your bum on the chair while pressing keyboard buttons and micing... wait no... the illusion unravel need moar horse riding!!) of course when the horse float in the air to "jump" an almost 90 degree vertical wall it kind of kill the illusion too... but eh beats running around it >.<

- Dungeons and caves are amazing crafted and beautiful. I love when you finish a dungeon and open a secret door that leads direct above the entrance. Details.

- The game looks and sounds good.
- The world actually feels dangerous, at least early on and with higher difficultysettings.
- It is a step up from Oblivion and Fallout 3 (which isn't really too large an accomplishment, but a good thing nonetheless).

I like that the racial differences are finally shown in a greater scope.

I like the idea of perk trees to influnce the skills.

I like Markarth and the Forsworn alot.

I love fighting dragons.

I love the environmental storytelling.

I love that they had some necrophilia in Skyrim.

I love the northern coast, simply amazing.

I love that exploration can earn you hidden rewards.

I like that I could pickpocket everyones clothes in Whiterun apart from some important NPC's.

Off the top of my head..
- I love the lore and how they continued after Oblivion leaving story hints of the time between.
- I love the new world, caves, dungeons and the dwemer. I love how you can get numerous quests for rare actifacts though dungeons now.
- I like the option of marrige
- I like the variety in enemies and enemy strengths.
- I love the dragons and the variety they have.
- I like the amount of possible quests.
- I love the option of smithing and improving armor and weapons.
- I like the option of taking carriges.
- I like the difference between towns, caves, dwemer ruins and dungeons.
- I like how they got more voice actors for the game.
-That's all I can think of for now. :P May list some more another time..

That's because drama is the glue that holds forums like these together.

I like the fact that there aren't any real dialogue options any more. I hate talking to NPCs and making in-depth decisions.
Some other things I like are the lack of stats, lack of equipment slots, and lack of any real sense of skill variety. RPG's just don't do it for me anymore.
I think they also did a great job on the marriage system, and I love how they shortened all of the guild quest lines. For example in Oblivion, I couldn't stand how long it took to become Listener in the Dark Brotherhood. Now you can just join and you already win, so it's straight to the point.

These are just a couple of the thousands of things I love about Skyrim.

- There are butterflies, dragonflies, and fireflies flitting around in the world. Reminds me of that swamp ambiance mod that Bethesda made for Morrowind.

- Same goes for the fish in the rivers. Found it troubling how in Morrowind & Oblivion the only sea life were Slaughterfish.

- The addition of more interactive activities, such as smithing, refining, tanning cooking, field labor, etc. I do wish they added brewing and fletching though.

- Dungeons are a lot more interesting in design compared to Oblivion. Caves now have zone line entrances instead of conspicuous doors.

- The various travelers seen on the road. They're a lot more interesting than the mods that added them for Oblivion.

- Candlelight spell looks much better than it did in Morrowind/Oblivion, and looks much better as glowing wisp than the weird floating candle in Daggerfall.

- Thu'um. Being able to shout enemies down and breathe fire is a nice addition.

Well done Bethesda.

A far more dynamic map full of natural obstacles, forcing you to navigate a little between objectives rather than walking in straight lines accross the map. (Fair enough can clamber over the mountains, but it's often too much hastle).

The environment in Skyrim is really well done. Compared to Oblivion it's miles ahead.
