Best God Ray shader?

Post » Thu Oct 15, 2009 7:47 pm

Ive been wondering if there are any different godray shaders to use other than the one that is linked on the OGE thread because ive seen some amazing videos and screens and just cant get those results with this shader.

For example this

now with this one i realize its most likely just the same shader but with tweaked variables.

but I have seen videos where the rays dont just come from the sun but from any bright spot in overcasty clouds.

EDIT: This video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-oakcdeOy8

How do I get that affect?

any help would be awesome lol

version 4. (But you would need a time machine to get it!) :P

PS. It is about sky replacers and tweaks. I wish it looks like those in mine too. Having a distinguish difference around the sun and rest of the sky would help the needed precision for the shader, like those shots.
PSS. If the v3 is too subtle use v2 for now.

How about you post your OGE questions in the OGE thread next time, hmm? That's what it's there for.

I have that effect. Try to vary with this values: (Here is my godrays.fx, the important part:)

//edit for sunshafts intensity decay exposure
float Density=0.9;

float Decay=0.99; (seems to determine the length of the rays)

float Weight=0.50; (seems that this makes the glowing more intense, but does not spread it to other clouds)

//float Exposure=0.22;

static const float Luminance = 0.46; (o.44 default, lets the surrounding clouds glow, in order to reduce it set it higher and set weight up, in order not to have an all glowing sky))
static const float fMiddleGray = 0.99f;
static const float fWhiteCutoff = 0.99f;

//edit for light colorness, lower the value for desaturated colors...
static const float saturate = 0.050f;
