Am I the only one that feels terrible playing a "bad&#34

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 3:12 am

Nope, even if I play as a sadistic bastard I still don't feel bad for doing what I do, cause it's a game.

Yes I feel bad when I do "evil" things...mostly when I kill npc's that I think aren't "bad." But occasionally I do it anyway just to see what happens. Then I reload. :P

Decent narrated video too. Although I wish more people would upload videos showing non-VATS combats. I get tired of watching menus.

Thanks :) Fair enough point about the VATS but I upload game reviews usually, not just NV gameplay. I guess for people that are unfamiliar with the game, it shows them how it works.

But using VATS to hit someone with a shovel 3 times maybe isn't the best use of that particular gameplay mechanic... =P

It's what I prefer ever since the first game I played that had real moral implications.

Aye, wasn't meant as criticism of your particular vid. Definitely for tutorials or walkthroughs more appropriate. :)
Just wish more people liked real-time combat videos like I do...doesn't matter of what - player solo, player+companion, multi-companions, etc - I just like 'em. That's why I make my own I guess....I just don't upload them much. heh

I find it so discomforting to play a Power Gangers (then Legion) supporter that I have to do it in small doses between playing characters I like more on a personal level.

Well you aren't alone but I am certainly always very evil. However, when I killed House and talked to him, I felt very terrible and considered my effect on the world of Fallout. I couldn't reverse it (well I could reload a save but let's keep it real), the mark had been done. It's pretty much up to you, the player, who dies and who lives. If Goodsprings bothers you, eradicate them! If you like the Enclave, support them! It's all about being selective and careful about the decision. You can't just go around being bad about everything.

Scourge of the wasteland where everything must die evil! I can't bring myself to do. Evil as in Help legion for cash I can do. New Vegas gives me a reason to be evil. It pays to be bad is you will. I get to learn what happens if I help the legion or do other bad things which gives my actions meaning.

I've never been very good at being a bad guy. Of all the FO3 games I've played, for example, I never once played a game where I blew up Megaton.

You have to try blowing up Megaton at least once - it's pretty funny to encounter Moira as a ghoul still trying to do the Wasteland Survival Guide

Yes, I do feel terrible. I always play as a good character, but sometimes, I save my game and try a few bad things just to see what happens. During one of those times, I felt the worst I had ever felt in a video game. Burning down Harold in Fallout 3 made me feel especially terrible.

I kind of felt bad about killing The King because they idolized me at the time, but it was the only way to get the Meat of Champions, so...

To the OP, thank you for letting me know I'm not the only one out there!

It is SOOO hard for me to play evil, which is weird since I'm a such major witch (with a B ) in real-life, but I've only been able to do evil in VGs twice.

The 1st time it was ever an option for me was with the Dark Brotherhood in Oblivion and OMG it was so hard to do some of those quests, but dayum, I wanted Shadowmere!

The 2nd time was Fable 2 and it was really easy because I got so sick of all those ugly hillbilly NPC dudes hearting me every step I took, so I just started killing them. Unfortunately my really hot Goth toon turned into an ugly, horned, yellowed-eyed she-witch but it was worth it to get them away from me.

I STILL haven't been able ro do an evil playthrough in FO3 and it would have much better replay value if I could, but I just can't. If NV ever gets fixed I might try it, as I'm not really as vested in the NPCs or factions in NV as I've been in all Bethesda games or other RPGs I've played.

When it comes to being evil, New Vegas doesn't compare to FO3. The opportunities just aren't there. Sure you can side with the Legion, but they don't hold a candle to Paradise Falls, where people are a commodity and nothing more. Remember the Wilkes kid from the fire ant quest, and how at the end you promised to find him a home? Guess where his new home was. I made quite a few caps off that arrangement too, and nothing the Legion has you do will ever compare in the "evil" department. Or talking to the priest in Rivet City who was thinking about suicide, then giving him a little nudge. Or handing a batch of psycho to that addict in the lower decks. So sad when he OD'ed. If there's anything like this in FNV, then I haven't found it yet.(If you have found some, please tell me.)

There's no real consequences for being evil either. Heck, it's nearly impossible without modding the game to even have Evil Karma. And even then, there's no bounty hunters, no outward sign at all that you're any worse than anyone else. Granted, Cass will call you an [censored] and refuse to work with you, but that's about it.

It doesn't bother me at all to play characters like that. It's not real, after all.

That's the "speedbump."

It's a good one, too, because the Goodsprings folks are the least morally ambiguous people in the game.

Once you get past that hump, it's easy to be a bastard.

It is real hard to be Evil to the folks of Goodsprings. I have a character that I load up when am I feeling peckish that is not really evil, just has no compassion at all and cares nothing about effects actions have on others. However, even that guy was nice to the folks in Good Springs.

The way I figure it, an Evil Guy needs a place that they can call home, this way Good Springs will always be a place that I can go back to and feel safe.

I can't play evil, I'm just incapable of it. I tried once in Fallout 3, just for the trophies, but when I reached Megaton, I turned right around and disarmed the bomb. I reloaded an old save and repeatedly accesed an owned terminal until I had low karma, reached level 8, and repeated for level 14, 20, and 30.

I've never even considered it in Fallout 1 & 2, they are in California. It's where I live and I have to help all the cities.

I also get really annoyed when my brother saves the game and keeps reloading the save to see how many different ways he can kill an NPC.
