How I found magic

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 4:40 am

So, I'm playing Speaks-Two-Ways, my Argonian thief. In a dungeon, end up fighting a boss without being able to use my stealth. So.. I start backpeddling and kiting him tryin to figure out what I"m going to do, my only weapons are my bow and 2 crappy iron swords.

I look through my bags and I find some scrolls I forgot I had, so I equipped a fireball scroll and hit him with it. Didn't do a whole lot of damage, but okay, no problem, I put away my left sword and equipped a fire spell I'd never used. Now I was channeling fire and kiting him! Anyway, I ended up using another fireball scroll and more kiting while healing... All said and done, after the fight I had to stop and think... that was kinda fun!

I had risen some skills while fighting him and had gained a level, so when I went to level up, instead of investing in more thief skills I kinda just threw the points and the perk into magic stuff. I try to play in such a way that I spend my perks on the skills which primarily leveled me up... makes sense to me, anyway:

So I leave the cave and I'm sneaking through the forest, suddenly I'm detected, and there's 4 red dots on my map.. wow really? Not because I'm bad at sneaking but because they are like way above my level.. yeah figures, almost get my ass handed to me by some big draugr overlord so naturally I should step outside into this.. yeah they were all Bandit Chiefs. Apparently Bandit Chiefs sometimes like to patrol near Riverwood in packs of four, didn't you know? Anyway, sneaking is right out, they already see me, and dual wielding my iron pokers ain't going to do squat; my only advantage is that right now they are atttacking that npc Anise, at her cabin, so I have a moment to think.

What's a lizard to do? I put away my swords, used a scroll to summon an Atronach, and kited them while spamming heal on me and fire on them when I could... well I'll be damned, this magic stuff is kinda fun! So, I tossed my fur armor in favor of some robes, I still use an axe in my right hand, but now, Speaks-Two-Ways goes nowhere without his trusty spells, and usually whatever kind of undead minion I can scrounge up, be it an elk or a zombie bandit.

Hope this wasn't too boring.. I was so excited, and to be playing a game where you can simply just dynamically change your class as you play... I had to post my little story :) So... I have some perks in sneak and archery and light armor.. oh well who knows, they'll come in handy some day.

Anyone else have a neat story about something that redefined the way you play your favorite character?

Okay, I haven't messed around much with Conjuration in Skyrim, but...an elk zombie? That's just...I'm laughing here because it sounds amusing and awesome. And I commend you for simply expanding your character's repertoire. Whenever I have a "eureka moment" regarding gameplay, I tend to start a new character using that newfound knowledge, even if I am pretty attached to my current character.

Great story.

You think Elk Zombies are funny until you face a zombie bear... at low levels a zombie bear will RUIN some bandits!

That's it. I'm making a Conjuration specialist next. Bears wreck me all the time. Time to harness that power. :D
