Do companions use potions/poisons?

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 4:20 pm

As the title says.

I'm trying to determine if I should bother with giving some of my "emergency" suppies to my companion.

Also, does anyone know if they level with you?

Lydia once used a healing potion that I gave her.

Official info is that they don't level, but I'm not so sure about that - on higher levels some of them still wipe the floor with my enemies, so either they're extremely powerful from the beginning, or they DO level up.

do they also use rings and amulets?

I've seen my companions use potions I've given them.

I love how you can fully customize them.

I have seen Lydia wear amulets. I don't know about rings, though.

They will wear rings and amulets. They will use healing potions. The will equip the best armor of the bunch you give them, and they'll use enchanted weapons, but you have to keep them charged. So if you have an amulet or ring that affords better health or something, give it to them.

That said, they also jump in front of your spells or jump on your sword. Annoying.

Can the companion get diseased? The alchemist in Whiterun keeps saying I look pale and sick and my stats screen says I got diseased once but I used a cure disease potion and they still say it. I'm not aware of getting the Vampire disease as I haven't gotten any strength boosts or the need to drink blood so I would've thought the cure disease would fix that. So, maybe it's my companion? or maybe I am just stuck as diseased somehow. Any assistance is appreciated.

The one in Whiterun says it even if you're perfectly healthy and perfectly human/elvish/orcish/whathaveyou. I think she's just trying to drum up business.

This is actually just RP. The alchemist in Whiterun tells you she makes most of her income selling quack potions to hypochondriacs, she's just trying to drum up some business by scaring you.

I could have sworn that the strategy guide says the followers level up with you whether they are with you or not. Lydia has been carrying around a berserker potion for about 20 or 30 hours real time. She also is wearing a ring and amulet, but won't wear any ring or amulet.
