WORKAROUND: High res textures for 32-bit and Low VRAM Users

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 4:55 am

Thanks to v00d00m4n for finding this:

Copy the High res texture .pak file from the "patch" folder into "gameCrysis2".

And there you go...high res textures!

(And delete it from "patch")

the Menu option will now say "No" and tell you that you must install that patch. However, in game you get better textures without any menu option adjustment.

This might seem like it works at first, but I wouldn't be surprised if the game eventually crashed. If it doesn't crash, it might actually start swapping to disc, which would bring the framerate down to a crawl.

Well I have 512MB VRAM. No crashing but I get some 2 second freezing when the game is switching to system RAM. I'll have to screw with LOD and streaming settings.

Yeah, I think they built the DX11 Patch and high res textures for systems with a lot of RAM (64 bit systems.) I'm sure it'll run on the 32 bit, but you're running the chance of crashing your computer or like the guy said above, using the page file on your hard drive..
