Still Can't marry Lydia

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 9:09 am

Ok so I have been wanting to marry lydia for the longest time and I thought the new patch would have fixed the dialogue glitch but of course it didnt. Is there a time in the game when you can marry her or not? or is it just doomed to be glitched forever. I have it on ps3 so i cannot console command cheat, nor would i even want to. Does anyone have a answer to this?

You do have THE amulet of Mara (and wearing it)?

yes i have the amulet and i am wearing it. This has been a glitch since the game was released and I thought it would have been fixed with the new patch. The dialogue is not showing up to marry her. There are topics all over the internet about it but no real answers.

Then I suppose she isn't the right one for you ;)...

Hopefully it will get fixed for you..

Marriage would probably just be a burden for her anyway...

After trying the Amulet of Mara--and nothing, I used the single console command addtofaction 19809 1. All the dialogue came up, and we got married. She makes me happy, and I love taking her with me--plus she kicks ass pretty good too. This has been several levels ago, and no bugs or issues--yet anway

Best wife I ever had. (If the real ones were that good, I'd likely still be with them--alas, so many decades ago).

In RL, my daughter is at lvl 15 on PS3--she didn't even know there was a marriage option--have to see what issues are encountered--I doubt there'll be any issues with Lydia though, since she won't "looking" that way anyway.

If you do marry her, give at least two full days to get home from Riften--it's along walk if going to your place in Whiterun.

I already know the console command works. I do not want to use the console command. I want to know why the text is not showing up. Maybe after doing the main quests with her after a while it shows up...not sure yet and wondering if anyone has actually married her without cheating

No, it is a glitch. Lydia is supposed to have a marriage option. It's in the game, you just don't have access to it.

On PC it's possible to use a console command to access the dialogue.

From the Wiki:

Despite being listed in the Official Strategy guide, it is indeed NOT possible to marry Lydia unless console commands are used. This is most likely a bug, as there is still all of the marriage content, except for the ability to actually marry her

Bottom line: there is a lot of "marriage content" already in the system, all of that is not being "added" with the console, simply accessing it is.

Why does everyone seem to want to marry Lydia? There are other potential characters out there, you know? What is so special about the first "companion" NPC you encounter? She's not exactly attractive (by video game standards).

Not positive on how this works, but I believe you can't add the dialogue to an NPC that isn't already marked as marry-able.

Quote from the http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Marriage on marriage:

Players can force the marriage dialog option to appear on NPCs by opening the console, targeting the desired NPC, and typing the command "addfac 19809 1". This could possibly cause issues with NPCs who were not originally intended to have this option.

I haven't heard about any issues when adding this dialogue to Lydia.

well, im a not a perv and not really attracted to pixels and such. I would rather have the real thing. Not saying lydia is hot or whatever. I am a person of principles and she was with me through a lot of the first half...so i thought i would stick with her.
