HD 6870 Crossfire Strange Lag !!!

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 7:54 pm

Hey guys as the title states my 6870 cross fire is experiencing some sort of weird lag. It works great sometimes but for some reason it lags every couple of seconds or when i shoot in the ground a couple of time's or even if i just look around.

I don't think its my rig holding me back or am i wrong? and all drivers are up to date. Any help or info would be appreciated.

Sys Specs: 1080p monitor, Sabertooth x58 mobo, 12gb 1600mhz ram ripjaws ram, 1tb caviar green hdd, 2 6870's, 750 wat psu, i7 930 4.4ghz and antec 920 water cooler.

Upping the volts on my graphics card sorted the low FPS /stuttering /game crash with screen black crazy sound loop bug.

Ok, my stock volts are 1.000 volts, when i put them to 1.075 i got stability, i'm now at 1.088, got a nice OC on the core but the VRAM has to stay at stock.

I also seemed to be experiencing similar things. Which I read about a bunch here already but I found a different fix which worked well for me. I dont know why, but enabling v-sync fixed these stuttering issues for me
. Its now a lottttt smoother. I only notice lag now while playing when I look down at water and empty a clip into it. Usually enabling V-sync kills my frame rate, but helped a lot here. May not work, but wouldnt hurt to give it a try :)

Is your power supply enough for both those cards?

It's not power supply, I have the exact same setup. I'm thinking our Vram might be maxing out at full details. When I first launched I did have massive lag, but when I scaled everything back it was fine, either it's driver problems or it's killing the 6870's on CF mode.

Strange, I had the exact same problem on my SLI GTX580 card with everything on ULTRA, when I disable V-SYNC the studdering/frame lost is gone.

When you disabled v-sync? Mine was the exact opposite. Was a really strange fix for me as vsync will give me smoother gameplay, but would kill my frame rates. Now im running at a solid smooth 45 with little changes. Very weird indeed!

ITS OPTIMIZATION. There is most likley nothing wrong with your rig. The game still has some xfire scaling issues AS WELL as the DX11 patch not being optimized at all. What is happening is your GPU usage is dropping to around 20% for no reason what so ever. This is a clear sign of un-optimization. My 6990 does the same thing.

Not to highjack the thread, but how much FPS are you getting with only one 6970? I'm think on upgrading from a 5870 to a 6970. Is it worth it? Will I get a steady 60FPS with the 6970? I'm currently getting 25-35 with my 5870.

you wont get a steady FPS of 60 in this game, but again its heavily un-optimized. But over all the 6970 is about 20% faster in DX10 and about 30% to 40% faster in DX11.
