Are there headshots in Skyrim?

Questioning whether there were headshots in skyrim that do extra damage, my initial reaction was "no", they never said anything about this. However somehow i began questioning that after this experience: Using a bow i came across a sabretiger in the wild, performed a successful sneak attack and took away around 2/5ths of his health with 3x damage ( yea its weak but im low level), and as he approached me i loaded a second shot and finished him off outside of stealth, without a critical hit, which is 3/5th of his total health by landing a shot in his head. I tested this with other sabretigers and couldnt really get the same result, anyone else have the same experience or is this a bug?

You CAN shoot people in the head.

But, as you said, all I have ever heard is that it does no extra damage.

No, there's no difference in damage or effect. It will be modded though, since it's such a ridiculously obvious thing for the game to have.

no such thing as hitboxes. A shot to the hand, foot or arm has the same effect as a nice, clean head-shot.
