"Comprehensive" Update?

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 3:16 pm

I've been so excited for this patch. I've wanted ED-E back since he disappeared. I wasn't going to just stop playing in the meantime, however, so I capped out at level 30. I don't want to start a new game, since I haven't completely finished this one. So when the update came out, I was so excited that my little eyebot would be following me around again. Well, was I ever fooled.

Loathe and behold, I can now tell he's stuck somewhere in Vault 11, apparently not in the sacrificial chamber, unless he glitched into the floor, or he's glitched around outside on the cliffs, but he still won't come back, and I can't find him. Anyone else have this issue?

I reserved a copy and payed $60 that I barely had, for a game I've been looking for oh so much... I can't even afford internet, I had to steal internet from someone else to get the patch. Can I just play my game as it is supposed to be? Please? I miss my eyebot, and the couple special weapons he was carrying. And I've never taken my dog for a walk even once... :sadvaultboy:

Patches can not go back and fix your save. The save contains the information that Ed-E is lost (as his current coordinates are probably above or below the game world). Patches can not go back and fix quests that you have already done. Patches can only mitigage or remove the conditions that caused the quest or companion to become borked.

Since you have reached Level 30, there can't be much left for you to do in the game anyway, so start over. Or, load a save from before Ed-E got lost.

Might not work, but I've found lost followers by using the console and the player.moveto command to find where they are. I would suggest trying it at least.

First, make a NEW save. Then I would take a little extra precaution by going into god mode and also toggle off clipping as you're not sure where you're going to end up.

Open your console by hitting the ~ key

type tgm [enter]
type tcl [enter]
type player.moveto xxxxxxx [enter] (xxxxxx represents his ID below)

here are his ID's you need to determine which ED-E you have to use the correct ID to type in instead of the x's above, so if you upgraded him, use the appropriate ID that you upgraded. if not use the default

001732d1 (default)
001732D0 (upgraded weapons)
001732CF (upgraded armor)

With a little luck, this may just take you right to him, he will just be floating there waiting for you and you can tell him to follow you and move on out. If he is in fact somewhere in Oblivion at least you will know that too.

Hope this helps, and if anyone has any other suggestions or see where I made a mistake, please chime in.

Have you tried using the elevator in Vault 22? That often warps your companions back to you, unless that little anomaly was removed in the new patch.
I lost Boone and ED-E before the patch, was told about the elevator work around and it worked for me.

Although the patch hasn't fixed everything. After a few days of using it I have noticed a big difference in stability. I haven't crashed once since the new patch, which is just insane. Also the more rare ammo is easier to find, and fiends with plasma rifle are actually quite dangerous. You should start a new game, and you will see a difference. Playing on an already messed up save with a new patch that changes many many things could cause even more problems for you.

true, but the patch should have also had something as to be able to realize that ED-E isn't following you, and it should refresh him next to you when you fast travel. It doesn't seem like that would have been too hard to had, and everybody knows he gets stuck all over the place. It just makes sense to fix that!

I really don't want to play through again, but I may have to... dang, recruiting all those followers again, and all that exploring... bleck.

ALSO! I'm on Xbox, everybody. And I have no saves that are that old. My dad overwrote them all. I couldn't even go back and activate Archimedes. :shakehead:

Try the sleeping for a week or two in the Lucky 38, maybe the patch tells the game to return him.

You will enjoy the game better the second time through, trust me. Try the game as character that is amped in one or two areas of SPECIAL and gimped in a couple of others, it can be a lot of fun.

Take your repair up to 50 and then enter vault 22 and use its elevator to go to any floor and then ED-E should be with you again.

never worked. Started a new game... I really hate doing it, but w/e. I always play good, so it will be a lot of the same...

Btw, glitch found. Having a companion on another save, then creating a new game, leaves the companion marking.
Like, Raul was my companion in the old save, and his companion marker now appears on Black Mountain in the new game. For some reason, ED-E, who I have again, doesn't show up at all.
